The surprise was a success. Proba-
bly no occasion has beon auch a success
as that of the surprise of Rev. G. L.
Hayes and Mrs. Hayes Wednesday
night November SO which was held
at the Fairview M K churoh. The
people began coming in with well-
laden baskets before the prayer serv-
ice was over. To add to the interest
the Pastor Rev. F. II. Neff had se-
cured tho presence of Prof. Carlisle's
Band and Orchestra from Laverne
and nothing seemed wanting to add to
the success of the evening. Blue Grass
received an invitation to assist in hon-
oring these friends who as pastor and
helper have endeared themselves to
the friends and workers of this com-
munity also and quite a number at-
tended. As a testimony of their re-
gard Bro. Hayes was presented with
a handsome Bible.
At the request nf the school teacher
Mr. Oakley a number of those inter-
ested in the school and Sunday School
met at the school house Tuesday even-
ing to disauss 'plans for a Christmas
entertainment. It was voted to co-
operate with Mr.Oakly and have a
community tree and program at the
sohnol house Saturday evening De-
cember 23rd. Messrs. I. A. Stevens
and 0. W. Adams volunteered their
services which wer gratefully ac-
cepted as a subscription committee to
procure funds for the treat. It was
sledded to assess each family 00 cents.
Mr. and Mrs. 0. L Oldham enter
tained Mr. and Mra Keating and fam-
ily of Woodward Mr. Carter and fam
ily of Speerniore and Mr. Copple and
family Thanksgiving Day. These with
the home folks Mrs. Oondet and
Misaea Bessie and Essie Quick made
a large family party about twenty in
all who enjoyed the occasion.
The hospitable home of Chas Baker
was the scent of a merry gathering
Saturday night Miss Vivian and Miss
Alice being hostesses to a larsre num-
ber of their young friends. After the
time spent in games was enjoyed Mrs.
Baker aisisted by her young daugh-
ters served a dainty lunch.
Rev. 11. F. Hon held regular services
at Blue Grass Sunday morning Nov
28th. At the close of the servico he
presented the claims of Southwest
College at Winflold Kansas and re-
ceived a number of pledges amount
ing tof.lOO.00 whloh will bo paid an-
nually until the sum subscribed Is paid
This added to other pledges made a
neat sum for Blue Grass. The next
servico will be Sunday night Decern-
ber 10th.
Mr. and Mrs. 0. L. Petty visited re I
atives near Laverne the past week.
Mr. and' Mrs. C II. Moyer visited
relatives at Ivanhoo December 3rd.
A deal was latelv consummated by
which Fred Taf t becomes the owner of
the Firestone farm formerly owned by
a Mr. Young of Rhattuck. We have
not learned what Mr. Firestone's fu-
ture plans are

foot slipped and he fell striking his

little fellow seems to be getting along
