Dinners for Threshers.
This subject is one that is concern
ing most farmers' wives at this time
because the good harvcjts In Oklahoma
require many men to take care of them
and these men do get hungry. They
get so hot and tired too. They should
have a good wash and time to rest be
for eating but they don't nlways get
It. They rush In nil hot tired hungry
and even dirty to eat as fast as they
can ho as to get out to cool oil and rest
u bit before work again so this pro
cess of dining is more ono of "grabbing
up and gobbling down" than any.hlng
else.
Now let me tell you my dear well
meaning sisters if you value thu health
and well-being of the men in your Cam-
ily. do not try to serve tho big old-
fashioned harvesting dinner that our
grandmothers used to labor over yer
even weeks before so that their tables
would bu loaded down with a feast of
good things for tho poor tired men to
try to consume wlion their systems
were in any but the right condition
for a heavy meal. The men like it of
course they dobut they always paid
up for It later in one way or another.
They cannot rest long enough to prop-
erly digest their heavy meal and they
should not work in the heat on a loaded
stomach.
Do not servo ice-cold drinks as quan-
tities are sure to bo consumed and thus
the linings of the stomach ro chilled
that there can be no normnl digestion.
Servo a good wholesome simple
mcnl and plenty of it. Do not serve
two or three kinds of meat four or five
dl lie re nt vegetables and as mnny dif-
ferent kinds of pio nnd cake rich pud-
dings great quantities of pickles and
Jellies. If you are ablo to havo a great
variety do not serve It all at one meal
especially If you must hove tho thresh
ers for several meals vary tho menu
for these different meals but let them
be simple. Ono of our neighbors rc
eontly served n good sensible dlnnot
for their threshers; it wag well cooked
good and wholesome and perfectly sat
isfying and the men enjoyed it. Good
sweut ham and brown gravy potatoes
pickled bcuts cherry pls cookies fresh
peaches and apricots.
I believe It was last year I read boy
oral prize letters in a farm Journal
wherein tho farmers' wives told about
their dinners for threshers. They were
interesting Such an amount of work
such quantities of food such a waste
economically and physiologically. Onr
woman actually- had chicken boiled
beef cold ham and salmon corn to
matoes potatoes kraut string beans
three kinds of pio two kinds of cako
fruit Jolly pleklcH and I don't know
what else. Another sensible woman
thought of herself and tho physical
condition of the men and made an
effort to havo tho dining room nnd her-
self clean nnd neat and cool and tt
servo genorously of a well-cooked sim-
pio meal. Let tho men tnke a voto to
seo which stylo of dining suits them
best. Oklahoma Farm Journal

How to Keep That Boy out of
Trouble.
If a boy I allowed to run th'o streets
until ho Is IS years old the mother
has no one to blamo but herself If he
is n wreck nt 'JO says the Hluo Haplds
Journal. No Inlluenco is jo harmful
to tho formation of ohnrader as that
with which boys meet in strcot asso-
rlotloni. No inlliioiico Is nweotor or a
bettor builder of character thnn that
which is found in tho happr contented
home whure mother reigns supremo.
The boy reared In such a homo sel-
dom brings norrow to his parents. lie
respects them too much to grieve them.
When mother is gone nnd only n mem-
ory remains ho sees her dear white
head and with this vision beforu him
nnd her kindly words of advice still
ringing in hU ears ho will not do
wrong out of respect to hor memory.
Nothing Is more beautiful than tho de-
voted mother of a dutiful son. Would
that the world had moro of them. To
be the mother of a dutiful son Is the
greatest joy on earth but to bo the
mother of nn ungrateful child is the
groAtcst of sorrows.

An old-fashioned editor lias conclud-
ed that Bonio of these modern new
fangled ideas are no Improvement over
the ones that wore in vogue when he
was n boy. He says wneii pa was young
people who hud bad colds souked their
feet In hot water and took a few
draughts of catnip tea and got well.
Now they have la grippe tuko quinine
and feel sick all summer. Then thuy
hud so ra throats wrapped n piece of
bacon in nu old wool stocking tied it
around the neck at night and went to
tvork the next day Now thoy havo
tousllitU u surgic.il operation and two
wcoks In a hospital. Then thoy had
tonmoli trouble nnd took castor oil
and recovered. Now thoy have appen-
dicitis a week in tho hospital nnd six
feet due cast and west and six feut per
pondiculnr. In those days thoy wore
underclothes. Now they wear lingerie.
Then they went to a restaur tut; now
they go to a cafe Then they broke a
leg; now thoy fracture a limb. People
went oraiy j now they hnve brain
storms-or are born crazy wo don't
know which. Politicians then paid
good hard oash for support; now they
send government garden seed Instead
Yes times have changed and wo nil

Forget.
Forgot the faults of other people.
Forget as many disagreeable tilings
as you can.
Forget your enemies and remember
your frionds.
Forget your gossip as soon as you
hear It or before
Forget doubts and fears and remem-
ber hopes and faiths.
Forget your own failures and ro-
member your successes
Forget tho pln-prloks slights and
trivial nITcimeM incident to nil life.
Forget to do every Injury but re-
member to do everyone n kindness
Forget the evil people of hlr tory nnd
remember tho good ones who have
made tho world bettor
Forget bitterness cynicism mlsan-
throphy nnd remember kindness phil-
anthropic and holpfu'nees
Forgot whatever utcleanness you
hnve read seen or heard and remem-
ber purity chaslty and goodness
Forget thu pains you may have suf-
fered and remember the health pain-
lessness you have enjoyed for years.
Sample Case.
Speaking of the
Divorce Evil
Trying to succeed in business
without advertising' is like the
case of the man who trying to
cut expenses divorced his wife
and alone attempted to keep
house and raise his children.
It cost him more money for
doctor bills and funeral ex-
penses In a year than he gave
his wife In a lifetime.
When advertising is
divorced business suc-
cess becomes failure.
This paper is building your
neighbor's business. He has
reasons. lie tried advertising
and It helped him. It Is not
an experiment this paper
brings results. Good hard
convincing results dollar.
