Funds to Fight Tuberculosis.
J Based on reports from all parts of
tho United States the National Asso
ciation for tho Study and Prevention
of Tuberculosis has Issued a statement
which shows that In 1910 nearly $15-
000000 was spent In tho light ngnlnst
tuberculosis as opposed to $8000000
spent In 1909. Tho largest Item of ex-
pense In 1910 was for treatment In
sanatoria nnd hospitals 113"C&00 be-
ing expended for that purpose or
moro thnn double tho amount for 1909.
Tho anti-tuberculosis associations
spent $7C0G00 nnd tho tuberculosis
dispensaries JS89.000. The special mu-
nicipal nnd stato expenditures aggro-
gatedjl.760000. The statement declares that the
most significant fact In the survey of
the year's work Is the increase In the
percentago of public money spent.
While in 1909 63.5 per cent of tho
total expenditure was from federal
state municipal or county funds C2.6
per cent came from public appropria-
tions In 1910. The actual amount or
public money spent In tuberculosis
work this past year was $9207900 or
moro thnn doublo the amount from
this snmo saurco In 1909. This fact
indicates the nntlonal association de-
clares that anti-tuberculosis associa-
tions are gaining ground by securing
Increased appropriations from public
money.

FLAX IS PROFITABLE
Wonderful Paying Proposition
Western Canadian Pralrlei.
In
Bo much Is hoard of tho wheat oats
and barley grown In tho prairie lands
of western Canada and so much has
been told of tbo wealth to bo mado
out of tho raising of cattle on
the succulent and rich grasses
of those fertile plains that a
most Important product has been al-
most lost sight of Flax. Recent press
reports advise us that on ono of tho
last boats to clear from Fort William
(at the head of Lake Superior) for
Buffalo there wero 211000 bushols of
flax valued at $583220 and on another
boat leaving the samo day there wero
288000 bushels valued at $720000.
Thero has been a big demand for Ca-
nadian flax this season and the lnke
movement has been very heavy. Flax
Is always a suro crop and gives to
tho farmer who Is anxious for quick
return after getting on his land the
chanco ho Is looking for. Thero Is
opportunity for thousands yet on the
free homesteads of 100 acres and
many of these nro available ultliln

panies nt reasonable prices.
