Vol. 1 No j 1 of the Reaver County
Democrat printed in Heaver is the
latest on our exchange table. It is a
neat paper Well gotten up and as there
is always room for one more we pre-
dict for the Democrat a bright and
procperuus future.
Friday afternoon the Beaver Ball
boys J had a chance to redeem them
selves which they proceeded to do in
great shapo. With tho usual crowd of
rooters present for both sides tho game
at first was exciting but later it was
only play for our boys and the score
run so high we lost the necessary
figures to keep tally. Two games were
played ono with Ilibbs and ono with
Zclma Beaver boys won both games.
With all the pomp and ceremony
fitting the occasion we are duly in-
stalled editor-in-chief. Presented with
the necessary from the office towel to
the quill wo aro "it" for th next few
weekB to como. Wc hope to please
every one. We aro not "scrappy" in
the least In fact wc do not believe in
scrapping therefore wo will not scrap.
So if any one has a bone and looking
for some ono to help pick it fight shy
of tho IIkrald office for we are not
looking for trouble.
BOMBTHINO IN A NAIU.
It has been said and rcsaid that there
ia nothing ina name but tho contrary
wastproven this week. R. J. Brewer
was committed to jail for failure to pay
fine and cost in a civil action in the
probate conrt last week. II. A.
Brewer who resides at Rokomo but
who is no relation to tho aforesaid
came in and satisfied the judgment
and the prisoner vyas released. He
did not propose to have even hit name
in tho county bastile. Now we arc
glad that we possess uuch a common
name as "Thomas". It may help us
some day.
COUU3NT CHOKX I? OUT.
Miss Ella Empy swore out a warrant
last week for tho arrest of her uncle
Pat Farwcll charging him with assault
alleging that he tried to choke her.
It appears that the plaintiff owed
Patrick the sum of $10.00 and refused
to reimburse him. Unlike many men
instead of letting his arm go to
"Waist" he let his hands go to nock
and proceeded to choke the gentle
lady.
The case was heard in Probate Court
this week and judgment was rendered
in favor of Mis Empy. Farwell was
fined $5.00 and eosta.

PU88T WANTS A O0RNBR.
The ruse of tho Territory vs Dunnf
Cnhlll last week In which R. .1. Brvwor
was tho complaining witness came up -in
Probate Court. It is another 'out
of those strange thingi that you read
about. It seems that the difficulty
arose over the setting of n certain
corner post . Mr. Cahlll first placed
the post over on Mr Brewers land "
about six inches. Beaver county Jand
has became so valuable that the owner
could not stand for that and o
proceeded to move tt back and this
time aoout an equal six inches on
Mr. CablU's farm. Thon the fun
commenced. Dennis sholdcrcd hi
spade and meandered toward thti
disputed post to place It tome place
perhaps trespassing twelve Inches this
time. Mr. Brewer had bulsncss at that
point at tho same time and Borne way
they got to flourishing spades and
crowbars until one finally turned to a
gun and Brewer quit tho promises and
came to town swearing out a warrant
for Cahlll charging him with too free
use of ono of those implements of
warfare that aro dangcrons without
lock stock or barrel.
The case received due attention in
Judge Meese's court of Justice and
Judgement was rendered In favor of
defendant the costa in tho caso being
assessed to complaining witness
Brewer.
We understand thot tho various bus-
iness men of Beaver have agreed that
after this week they will close their
places of business at 8 o'clock p. m.
This Is a good move for it will give not
only tho clerks in the various estab-
lishments a little freedom but tho
proprietors themselves who are al-
ways overworked a chance to got away
from business a few hours. We hope
that tho agreement will be strictly
adhered to.
