Editor Herald: Ap I thiok it

Some one says iu a Kansas City paper
that Beaver county is suffering for rain;
that grass is dying nnd cattle are per
ishing for want of feed in western Okla-
homa. I can speak fortius part if the
county. Grass has been Cno all season
and tho recent rain c.iino in due time.
Grass nevr looked better nor cittlo fin-
er than now. Crop prospects are good.
A R Henderson has beat his record
on crops I his year. Ho has in over a
hundred and twentyfivo acres nf Kaffir
corn. His naphews G and Leonard
Hendcron arc now lieie with a bunch
of Colorado horses for Rale. This is the
second second bunch this season the
first being sold.
Clint and Ed McMains havo leased
the old residence homestead of their
rather. Gilbert has established for
himself a bachelor's rccidoncc thrco
miles north of bis father's place. I
fear if somo gentle maid docs not soon
capture him ho will bo u pronounced
old bachelor. His well known bashful
necs has always Hood between him and
mvtrimony
Isaac Stamper is now putting down a
well on the flats soven miles north of 113
to give his cattlo summer pasture.
John Glenn will do tho same a litt'o
later on as he realizes tho value of the
grass on the flats for fattening cattlo.
James McMains recently returned
from eastern Kansas and Oklahoma
whero ho has been visitiug for several
months. Wc ure glud to sco that he is
improving in oealth. He tells us that
this is tho best place ho hns seen since
ho left. The people of this county do
not know how well off they are
until they havo eomdarcd lots with those
living elsewhere which of courso flatters
our pride.
Miss Kate Wright accomptnied by
Muses Graco and Irene Nichols who
havo just returned from school at Man-
hattan Kansas where tho? remained
for thico years came down for a visit
wilh Mr. Henderson's family who went
with them to thu Frisco. It goes with-
out saying thai wo cujoyed cur outitifi
which embraced somo lovcI features.
Wo wero caught in a big rain about
four miles from home and later teeing
another storm coming wo camped in the
Optima school house all night nnd
reached tho Frisco early the next morn-
ing to find that there had been a big
rain thero tho night before which we
mL-bcd by stayiug at Optima that
place missing both rains. Ui course it
is notuing singular to bo caught in a
rain but we had thu luck to tie caught
agaiu on returning though our crowd
only got damp as we were well piotect-
cd. Wo met the jolly crowd you sent
up from Beaver who united with the
others in entirely forgetting the object
of tho Eourtlr Not a word was men-
tioned about Gcorgo Washington.
Shades of the immortal Washington
look down on us and forgive! The
truth is that if any ono as much as
mentioned the "Father of his Country"
it waj on tho side no one beard it.
Wonder if after tho American heroism
of tho last year there has grown a dis
position to forget those of tho past.
Wo havo been taught to revere. 0
have need to go slow. SainU aro never
caaoniiod until long after death so that
tho torch ol time gives proof of their
deeds I would not detract an iota
from tho fmo of liviug heroes but only
claim that Washington's deeds were
too important to be forgotten "First in
war first in peace first in the hearts of
bis countrymen."
