The relationship which the baking
powders bear towards our health is com-
ing to be appreciated.
There is no doubt that the indiges-
tion aud drspepsiu of which many Amrr
icaus complain aro caused by tho indis-
criminate use of alum linking powders.
Thtso baking powders from their lowtr
prico and iho persistency with which
they are advertised as puro cream of
lartar powders or from tho templing
schemes with which they aro nlfcred. aro
being purchased by many housekeepers.
That ilium hnking powders aro unwhole-
some i a fact as well established as that
arsenic is a poison. There must accord-
ingly bo (he greatest care exercised by
the housewife to keep them from her
food. A thcmical analysis only will cx-
poo thi'ir Hue character. Kven the
price at. which they aro sold is not al-
ways a maik to identity them.
There is certain r.afcty in tho use of
the well known brand Royal Baking
Powder The Hoyal is not only ccrtilicd
by the Government Chemists 1'reo from
alum aud from all adulteration but every
housewife feels a confidence when using
it which hho cannot have with any other
powder. It is made from chemically puro
S cream of tartar and U actually an nnti-
' dyspeptic promoting digestion and add
i ing to the vtbolcaGuicnee of the loud.
Will Wo Get a Railroad?
There i no disputing the fact that j
there i!l he two or three new railroads
built io Oklahoma the coming fear. The
MWit important of ilicjf 14 the Arkansi
Guthrie and California line (which is in
j reality the 'Frbco) Io tun from Shawnee
imrihwe.! through Garfield Wood
Woodward and HcATc-r counties into
Culorjdo. The mrvey of i)im line was
beun un January uih. The Prioo com
paoy ha nercr euiirely abandoned the
project inaugurated twelve years ago to
jrirc that eompai.y an independent line
from the Mi-sk-ippi river at Si. iouis
Io Cilifornia. ilsch tireliniinary mi-
veying was done at that time hut the
financial collapse in the teconl year of
Grover CIevlan i's first adiutnisiration
put a quietus on the construction of rail
roads as well as on (he construction of
all other public utilities. Everything
io the line of railway building uncc that
time has lain dormant until within the
laU twelve moDlh.
Our prospect fur a railroad therefure
depend upon the completion cf projects
which were conceived aod partly com.
plcted twelve years ago. To hack our
prospects we have to olTer as an induce-
ment for the investment of capital in a
railroad ca.st and west through Heaver
county the best unoccupied territory for
a railroad in the middle west. Wc have
to offer the transportation of 50000 head
of cattle annually from Heaver county
the north part of the Panhandle ol
Texas and eastern New Mexico. Then
there is the transportation of fuel lom-
ber and dry goods aud groceries for tho
thousands of people who now live within
reach of the proposed railroad and for
a population quadruple in number that
will settle along the line as soon as the
road is ns.ured.
Hut people seldom get what they want
without asking for ii. If wc want thii
lino of road wo would do well to Ut our
wants bo known. The people on eaoh
idrt of Heaver county are ever on the
alert to secure anything that will bo of
advautage to them. They aro not asleep
now. Why should not Heaver county
inako one more efTurt to obtain that
which she 1ms needed for so many years?
Wo are satisfied that wc cati obtain it if
we make the propir effort. Certainly
there are representative influential men
enough in tho county who arc sufficiently
interested in tho matter to present our
claims to the railroad company.
Tho money to pay for thu building of
railroads through this southwestern
country is in the hands of capitalits and
will ho expended for that purpose. If
nn do i.ot get it some locality noith or
south of us will. Let us wake up and
at least find out whether wo can get tho
road or not. Opportunity is going to
pass (his way let us scizo her by the
forctop. She may never pass this way
again.
Congress passed a bill on Jan. 19th
grantiug a sito on Fort Supply military
reservation to Oklnhoma fur an insane
aylum. Most people in this section of
country would prefer a veterinary sta-
tion at that noint. but liinvhn an insnnr
Luni w:l I. iwttnr il.n. WUn
the i.-Htitu is built it will be close to us
and nill no doubt fntnihli n greatly
needed sanitarium for tho cure of n large
number of people who aro ''off their
base.'
To it we can send a big lot of
fellows who imsgino that they can win-
ter large herds of catllo on wind pudding
and havo them conio out all right in thu
spring. Along with them would go the
fellows who imagine that the public land
is for their exclusive uco and benefit and
fence "littlo fellows'' away from rango
and water. The next batch would bo
fellows who think that there is a limit
to the power of tho government to lax a
territory. In the incurable ward will bo
plaited the fellows who wcro disappointed
because they didn't get an office aud all
(he other fellows who did get an office
and will find out (hat it didn't "pan out"
like they thought it would bcfoio they
tried it. Yes indeed there will bo plenty
of ue for that insano asylum. It will
havo its drawbacks however. When all
got in who aro entitled to admission
(hero will be mighty few left to sub-
scribe for tho H Kit AM) .and wc won't
have any more business than a rabbit.
