Wasui.no ro.N Aug. 27. The prevail-
ing impression us to th probable action
of the two houses tluds expression as
follows: The vote on tliu Wilson repeal
bill will lie taken Monday or Tuesday
In the house and the sliver pur-
chase clause of tho Sherman law
as far as thut body Is con-
cerned will be wiped out of ejclstcnee.
The bill will then go to the senate
where It will be referred to the finance
eommltteo which will probably pigeon-
hole. It. The senate will go struight

ing for several days. It will do this
for two weeks aud probably longer
before the llnal vote will be tuken.
The bill which will 1-e passed U the
Voorhees bill. Then the Voorhees bill
will go over to the house. There H
will doubtless be acted on with little
dchiy though there may be another
now of oratory because us there Is
some differences between the senate

pect of a contest however cloture will
lie speedily upplied and tho bill will be
passed and will then be reudy for Hie
president's signature.
The Voorhees bill only d I tiers from
the Wilson bill In making a declaration
lu favor of bimetallism.
In the house Monday there will be n
minimum of seven roll calls and there
mny lie muny more. Kach roll call re-
pilres nearly an hour and It will not be
possible to "complete the work until
late lu the afternoon. The house Is a
very hot and stilling place when the
thermometer marks 100 und tho most
exhausting of ull parliamentary work
Is to watch the roll calls and see that
the records of Important questions are
accurately kept. It Is possible there-
fore that from physical exhaustion it
may W decided to continue the legisla-

WtstilsiiTON'. Aug. 'J7. Mr. Allen
(deiiiocriit of Mississippi) said lu the
house that unlike most of the gentle-
men wh.t had addressed the house on
the silver question and who hud ills
claimed lieltig tluiiuelers or partisans
he was Uith Laughter. Ho had
made the iiiestiiin of currency a study
for more than forty years.. Laughter.
Hut he Has not one of those tluiiuelers
who were responsible for the pres-
ent stringency He had kept his
money in circulation. Laughter) He
had done about l."i per cent of his busi-
ness on credit but he did not think
that was a good plan for Ills creditors
were now clamoring for hltu to do
something to restore confidence.
Laughter I I he country was III. nut
the remedy proposed was not the
proper one. It reminded him of the
story of the darky who being
left lu charge of a farm wrote
to his employer: "I'e cow hits
been sick. I tlnk she is well of
the disease now. but I tlnk she will die
of the remedy I done gib her." lie
I Mr Allenl would like to cure the
country of tho disease but he did not
want to vote for it leniedy that winiL'
be worse than the disease. He did iVl
propose to be ilrhrti or bullied Into do-
ing that which in his humble Judgment
would W n bad thing for the masses of
the people.

we do uot know the exact meaning.
We hear every day words used In thu

know the meaning.
1I0W INOAM.i BECAME A UNCHIUT.
John J. Ingalls being asked bow be
became such a rtmarkable linguist
said "l gatned my wide Tocabulary by
a study of the dlotlonory. At an early
ago my mother told mo that whenever
1 heard or read a word I did not know
the meaning of not to rest until I hud
hunted It out lit tho dictionary and
fol its full meauing and pronun-
ciation Indelibly impressed on my
memory. I got an unabridged Web-
ster put it on a rack beside me as I
read and never passed a word I was in
doubt about without looking it up. It
was not long until my knowledge of
words surprised lilo. This plan I have
kept up all my life. This Is the best
plan of self education."
Every young man and young woman
should do as Ingalls has done and the
rrsult will be an easy flow of choice
language; then your power of expres-
sion will bo widened.
