Einsey Feathers is the name of
the tollgate keeper on the Freder-
ick turnpike one mile below Elli-
cott City Md. He has been there
for sixteen years every day at his
post of duty except on Fourth of
July and Christmas in each year.
It is asserted he has never slept in
a bed in all that time but he man-
aged to catch naps sitting in a chair
ready to come at a moment's no-
tice to collect his toll and let the
traveler pass through. "

. Newport I. T. Dec. 9. Grat
unrest and dissatisfaction is mani-
fest among the ; non-citizens of our
neighborhood by reason of the no-
tices to surrender their farms on
the 1st of January 1900" being
served by the citizens.
Messrs. Joseph Harrington and
F. A. Ford have sold out and are
preparing to move to Oklahoma.
The family of Dr. Parish of New-
port and all his household effects
are on the road to Santo Palo
Pinto county. Tex. their future
home. The doctor will follow in a
few days having remained to wind
up his business.
Isaac Taylor of Newport" hai
sold his entire stock of goods t
Mr. King at same place and will
move to Elmore I. T. his future
home. We wish him success.
Mr. Henderson has moved to
Elk I. T. for the benefit of school.
Many of our neighbors are at-
tending district cart in Ardmore
and the non-citizens' convention -
To put the brake on the wagon go
ing down the bill is a help to the
horse when the wagon Is heavily
loaded. But what driver would think
of applying the brake to a loaded
wagon going up bill? It he did his
sensible horses would probably balk.
Many a man Is in tbe condition of
pulling a load uphill with the brake
set against him. When his stomaCh
is out of order and the allied organs
of digestion and nutrition impaired
in their functions a friction is setup
which has to bo overcome in addition
to the performance of daily duties.
A foul stomach makes a foggy brain
and tbe man with a disordered stom-
ach has often to grope bis way
through the day's business like a man
In a fog. He forgets appointments.
Problems seem presented to bis mind
"wrong end to." This condition is
entirely remedied by ' tbe use of
Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discov-
ery. It puts tbe stomach and digest-
ive and nutritive system into a con-
dition ot perfect health and gives a
clear brain a steady band and a
light step for the day's duties. When
constipation clogs the channels of
tbe body Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pel-
lets will work an effectual cure of
that disastrous disease.
Will Arbitrate.
Chicago Dec. 9. The great la-
bor war threatening so lo-g be-
tween the Chicago building con-
tractors and trade unions has
been averted through an agreement
for a permanent arbitration board
of . which the personnel is to be
thoroughly representative of the
trade unions and other trades in-
terested. Throueh the terms
agreed upon no sympathetic strike
is to be declared until the new
board has had an opportunity to
investigate and decree what are to
be the terms of settlement." Pro-
vision is made for the naming of a
referee by the arbitrators iu the
event that the board is unable to
reach a decision on any particular
issue.
The story of love ia as old as the world
and as all embracing as the universe. It
furnishes the sentiment for all romances
all novels all plays.
The novelist considers it wholly from the
sentimental intellectual side but there is
another aspect even more important the
physical side. Sentimental love between
men and women leads to close physical as-
sociation to marriage to the rearing: of
children. And so health must be consid-
ered. A weak sickly hcad-achey back-
achey woman cannot be a (rood helpful
wife. She cannot bear healthy happy
children. ' She cannot give her children
the proper care and training:.
A sick woman has no right to marry. A
sick woman has no right to attempt moth-
erhood. But no woman need be sick unless af-
flicted with cancer. There is a sure way
for her to regain her health. She need not
go to a local doctor and submit to the di
agreeable questionings "examinations"
and "local treatments" so invariably in
aisted upon and so justly abhorrent to
every modest woman.
Dr. R. V. Pierce of Buffalo. N. Y. has
cured more cases of female weakness than
any hnndrcd local practitioners. He has
proved that diseases distinctly feminine can
be cured right in the privacy of home.
Write to him stating your symptoms and
an account of your trouble and he will rive
your case careful confidential considera-
tion and prescribe for yon free of charge.
Mrs. O. N. Pisher. of iSftt Lexington Avenue
New York City writes: I had been a sufferer
from nervooaae-a with all its mnptoma and
complications. In the spring of 1897 I began to
take Dr. Pierce's Favorite Preacriptioo. Now I
am not eraas and irritable. I have a good color
la my face aad have gained tea pound."
