Every citizen of Ardmore should
now go to work to secure some in
dustrial enterprise for Ardmore
which will be of lasting benefit to
our town.
J
Ardmore' s close of the century
anniversary picnic has passed into
history but it will long be pleas
antly remembered by the thou

The death of ex-Senator John
J. Ingalls has removed from pub-
lic life one of the most brilliant
minds of the age. Had he not
been such a bitter partisan he
would have' been a greater man
for he had an intellect capable of
heroic achievement.

Explains the Status of the
Allotment Treaty .
In speaking of the report that
the fullblood Creek Indians had
refused to take their allotments
and had withdrawn from the regu-
lar Creek government Judge W.
M. Springer who represents the
Creek Indians at Washington
stated to a St. Louis Republic
correspondent as follows:
"There is no foundation what
ever for this statement. The
Cheeks who are dissatisfied with
the nrosoective allotment of their
lands in severalty under the pend
ing treaty are so few in number
that anv course they may take is
unimportant so far as the Creek
nation is concerned. During last
winter a delegation of fullblood
Indians came to Washington to
srotest aerainst anv legislation in
regard to Creek lands and espec
tally against their allotment in
severalty. No attention was paid
to them by congress or by the
departments and the interested
parties who induced tbem to come
here were obliged to take them
back at their own expense. There
always have been meddlesome in
dividuals at work in the Indian
Territory trying to induce dissat
isfied members of the tribe to
emigrate to Mexico where at
tractions are held out to them o
unlimited hunting grounds and
freedom from white man's interfer-'
ence for an indefinite period of
time. Nothing will come of it.
The great body of the Creek In
dians and. the Indians of the five
tribes have accepted the situa-
tion in good faith and are
anxiously awaiting the legisla-
tion of congress which shall com
plete the allotment of their lands
in severalty giving each Indian
his share of the common estate.
I am certain there is no founda-
tion whatever for the statement
in regard to the Seminoles. They
are a well-disposed peaceful and
intelligent people and are living
happily and contentedly in their
reservation."
Judge Springer added that in
his opinion congress early in its
next session will ratify the pend-
ing Creek and Cherokee agree-
ments without important modification.
I wish you to say also" said
Judge Springer ''that the article
in a St. Louis paper stating that
I am disqualified from acting as
attorney for the Creek and Cher
okee nations i3 absurd and Billy
upon its face. I am not affected
by the statute referred to in the
story for two reasons first I
never was an official of the interi'or
department and second.- neither
the Creek nor thejCfrerokee nation

department-'' while I was on the
bench.

It Is probable that the earliest sun
dial was simply tbe spear of some no
mad chief stuck upright in tbe ground
before his tent. Among those desert
wanderers keen to observe their sur-
roundings It would not be a difficult
thing to notice that the shadow short-
ened as the sun rose higher In tbe sky
and that the shortened shadow always
pointed in the same direction north.
The recognition would have followed
very soon that tbls noonday 6badow
changed In Its length from day to day.
A six foot spear would give a shadow
at noonday In latitude 40 degrees of 12
fct at one time of tbe year of less
Jian two feet at another.

"11elleve I made a discovery in sea-

when there was a particularly hard

almost throw me out of bed. I was
sleeping with my bead forward and
after awhile I discovered that the
screws seemed to c5me out of the wa-

It occurred to me that this was Impos-

when the stern was In the air.
"So my discovery wes that In sea-

the ship really pitches upward when
you think It pitches downward. This
confusion may assist In muddling the

this experience all through one night
