OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE CITY.
ARDMORE. THURSDAY JAN. 16.
The Ardmoreite is in no way
responsible for nor will it pay
any debts contracted by any eni
ployee of this office unless ac-
companied by an order signed by
the business manager.
As will be seen by reference to
a dispatch published elsewhere
the matter of court house and jail
facilities at Ardmore has been set-
tled by the acceptance of the prop-
osition of Dr. Wolverton whereby
the building in course of erection
on the corner formerly occupied by
that gentleman's residence will be
completed especially for a temple
of justice. The location is an ex-
cellent one and when the structure
is completed Ardmore can boast of
one of the best appointed court
houses in the Indian Territory.
The editor of the Ardmokeite
had a most pleasant conversation
with Judge Campbell this morning.
As before announced the judge has
only recently returnee' from Wash-
ington. While there he was a
warm supporter of Delegate Doug-
las in his townsite labors. He is
very sanguine in his belief that
something will be done. He says
that as a rule congressmen are
alive to the needs of the people of
the towns of the Indian Territory
and that after a full explanation
of the situation they can see no
objection to such legislation. The
prevailing sentiment is to make
sweeping changes but the same
old obstacles are ever confronting
them. These drawbacks are large-
ly done away with by such conser-
vative charges as proposed by Mr.
Flynn's bill and Judge Campbell
feels assured that it will be report-
ed favorably from the committee
having it in charge. He says the
influence of the St. Louis Chamber
of Commerce and Kansas City
Commercial Club is evidenced by
the unanimous support of the meas-
ure by the Missouri delegation.
Mr. Douglas is working with his
characteristic and indomitable en-
ergy and converts to his side of
the question are of daily occur-
rence. If this bill does not be-
come a law at this session of con-
gress it will not be for a lack of
proper effort on the part of our
delegate. The Ardmoreite be-
lieves with Judge Campbell that
success is in sight.

Beattr'a Organs and Planoa.
fj Hon. Daniel F. Reattv. n.e Washincr-
ton New Jersey the mea Orean
and Piano manufacturer is building
more Organs and Pianos than ever.
In 1870 Mr. Beatty left home a pen-
niless plow boy and by his indomit-
able will he has worked his way up
so as to sell so far nearly 100000 of
Beatty's Organs and Pianos since
1870. Nothing seems to dishearten
him; obstacles laid in his way that
would have wrecked an ordinary man
forever he turns to an advertisement
and comes out of it brighter than
ever. His instruments as is well
known are very popular and are to
be found in all parts of the world.
We are informed that during the
next ten yea. s e intends to sel1 200-
000 more of his make; .h?. means a
business of $20000000. ' we average
them at 1100 eacb. It 'u already the

ence. Write or call upon Daniel F.

THE CHILD'S PRAYER.
Into her chamber went
A little maid one day.
And by a chair she knelt
And thus began to pray:
"Jesus my eyea I clow;
Thy form I cannot ;
If thou art near me. Lord
I pray thee speak to me."
A still small voire nho heard within her soul:
"What is it child? I hear thee. Toll me all."
"I rry thee. Lord" she said
"That thou wilt conck-sceiid
To tarry in my heart
And ever be my friend.
The jKith of life is dark
I would not go BKtray;
Oh let me have thy lutnd
To lead mo in the way."
"Fear not I wiU not leave thee child
alone."
Ehe thought she felt a soft hand press her own.
"They tell me. Lord that all
The living pass away ;
The aged oon must die.
Anil even children may.
Oh let my parents live
Till I a woman prow.
For if they die what can
A little orphan do?"
"Fear not my child. Whatever ills may coma
I'll not forsake thee til! I bring thee home."
Her little prayer was said.
And from her chamber now
She passed forth with the light
Of heaven npun her brow.
"Mother I've seen the Lord
His hand in mine I ft It
And oh I heard him say
As by m chair 1 knelt:
" 'Fear not my child. Whatever ills may come
I'll not forsake thee till I brins thee home." "

"Hive yuna novel called by

t tidant in a city library.
"No and we never hoard of the book
tv.itil today but we have had at least
t !i applicants for it since 0 o'clock this
r -Tiling. I bog yonr iKirdon but would
vyn please tell me how you heard of
that book?"
"Why" she replied hesitatingly "I
received a note from a friend telling mo
to road it"
"Well" he said with a smile "the
ethers who applied had heard of it iu
the same way. "
Hie young woman looked surprised
but said nothing and passed out. A man
who had overheard tho conversation
si" ke of it to his wife that evening as a
curious coincidence.
"Coincidence fiddlesticks!" she said.
"Wait a moment until I show you what
I received this morning. " And going to
her desk sho brought this note for him
to read :
My Deak If you want a surprise read
by . You will immediately recognize thu
character . Hastily yours E.
"Well I thought over all of the Ellas
Ev:i Emmas and Elizabeths of my ac-
quaintance" she went 011 "but I could
not recognize tho handwriting. It was
a car round hand but rmfoiincd like
a child's. Coincidence indeed! It is a
clever advertisement new in the lxok
trade but I have seen similar letters.
Four years ago a furniture firm sent out
a clover imitation of a letter written in
a ilelicato feminine hand ilat.il at a
eorntry villa and addressed 'M.i chere
amie. ' It was a gossipy plcis.uu letter
aud t;t the end requested the friend to
buy her two or three pieces of furniture
little pen and ink sketches of which
wore pinned to the corner. Of course
the price and where to buy thr-m were
not overlooked." New York Sun.

Monk Gerbert who ascended the papal
throne under the titlo of Sylvester II
anticipating Roger Bacon made a
bronze head which like that owned by
the reputed inventor of gunpowder was
capable of answering him like an oracle.
Fi m this head he learned that he would
not die until he performed mass at Jeru-
salem and so he determined to live for
ever by taking especial care not to go to
the Holy City. Unfortunately Gerbert
soon found that brazen heads like other
juggling fiends "but keep the word of
promise to our ear and break it to our
hope" for one day he was taken serious
ly ill just after he had celebrated must
in one of the churches at Roma On iu
quiring the name of this particular
church he heard much to his dismay
that it was popularly kuowu as "Jeru-
salem" and he died in great agony a
few hours afterward. Five hundred
years after this Master Robert Fabian
gives us the story of the death of King
Henry IV and tells us how that in his
youth it had been prophesied that he
wonld die in Jerusalem and that tho
prophecy as in the case of Gerbert was
iu a way fulfilled by the king dying iu
the Jerusalem chaml)er at Westminster.

The one great rule of business is that
of honesty absolute and unqualified
honesty writes Edward W. Bok iu The
Ladies Home Journal. All the rules of
business are worthless if they are not
ronucieu on that oue and only founda-
tion stone to true commercial success.
Honesty is not alone the lesi policy iu
business. It is the one aud only policy.
Upon it and upon it alone can a gtxnl
icpntation be built aud a man in busi-
ness without a reputation for honesty
might just as well stop. Any deviation
from the rule of honesty in business may
bring temporary gain but it invariably
means permanent loss. On the other
h:md a strict ad"ereuce to an honest
policy may mean a temjiorary loss but
it is sure to result iu a i-rai;uiont gain
