The recent healings of tne con:m!s-

physical valuation of railroad proper
ties. .The railroads gent their expert
I'-afore the commission with a mass of
ligures and evidences to Ehow the
value or cost of. reproducing their
physical properties It is on such data
dnta supplied by the railroads
that the commission must rule whc.th
:' the rai'roads should be allowed to
Increase their present rates. tTh
commission itself is authority for the
statement that reliance can be placed
In these figures. The annual report
of the conimiscfon for 1908 save:
No one at tue present time can
say whether the railroads are under
or over-capitalized. Every railroad
valance sheet begins with 'cost of
property' against which is tet a fi
tire which purports to stand for the
investment. No court or commission
or accountant or financial writer
would for a moment consider that the
present balance in a remote degree
a reliable estimate either of money
fnvetited or of present value."
In other words the commission is
constantly permitting the railroads to
Increase rates upon a showing of fig-
urea which the commission Itself ad-
mits are unrelable.

"The Time The l'iace and The
Girl" to be seen at the lirooks the
atre Saturady October 15 is a must
cal comedy or Heart interest witn a
plot of strong dramatic scenes yet
full of fun laugh-provoking dialogue
and humorous complications all set
to music and with iis acting possi-
bilities enhanced by half a dozen un-
ique but. thoroughly lifelike charac-
terizations. There are twelve delightful songs
among them being "Thursday Is .My
Jonah Day." "Dixie I Love You"
"Don't You Tell" and "The Waning
Honeymoon" "1 Don t I - u- rour Fam-
ily" First and Only" "Lonesome To-
night" and forty wonderfully attrac-
tive chorus girls.
Lovers of musical comedy have a
rare treat in store for themselves at
the Brooks theatre Friday October 14
on which occasion the celebrated La-
Salle Theutre (Chicago) musical com-
edy success "Honeymoon Trail" will
be the atlraction. This is one of the
most pretentious and elaborate offerings-
of the current fcaunn. A cast
and clionis of over half a hundred are
carried and the manunouth scenic pro
duction is a marvel of beauty.
