ASDMOBE WEDNT 8DAY APRIL .".
AT Purcell party lines weir
drawn to a tension.
Politics was not considered in
the Ardmore election.
Carter Harrison' has been re-
elected mayor of Chicago.
When it comes to a peaceful
flection Ardmore can give older
cities pointers.
Ardmore congratulates Gaines-
ville on the re-election of John H.
Shortridgc as mayor.
Let bygones be bygones let
every man put his shoulder to the
wheel and push Ardmore to the
front as a peaceful progressive
city of the first class.
The Akd.moreite desires to
thank the judges and clerks of the
election for courtesies extended in
rendering for publication this
morning the returns from the va-
rious polling booths.
The men who will control the
destiny of our city for the next
year or two arc level headed
conservative gentlemen and as
their duties will be arduous it be-
hooyes every one to assist them in
everyway possible by word actor
deed.
WHY COTTO.N IS CHEAP.
In discussing this question in
Farm and Kanch Mr. Bryan Ty-
son says:
"Ever since the war the quan-
tity of cotton grown in the United
States has been on the increase
while that in the residue of the
world has been on the decrease.
As a result the United States now
produces about 85 per cent of the
cotton of the world. Consequent-
ly if we would now adopt proper
measures for decreasing the quan-
tity grown in the United States
we could raise the price of cotton
without materially at least with-
out detrimentally increasing the
quantity grown in other coun-
tries. "Cotton planters in order to get
out of debt frequently plant more
cotton and work harder but this
is not the plan: it generally brings
on old age about ten vears too soon
and finds them still in debt. A
better plan is to cultivate less and
procure a better profit'
The cattle men of the Indian
Territory are beginning to suspect
that the threats of removing the
cattle April 1st is only the same
old song whose ultimate object is
to make them "dig up." Hereto-
fore certain rascally officers have
by means of threatened removal of
the cattle succeeded in fleecing the
cattle barons annually. Whether
the recent threats emanate from
the same source will doubtless ap-
pear later. Chickasha Express.

CLEAN THE CITY.
The following timely suggestions
from the Mail Telegram for the
welfare of Fort Worth are so ap-
plicable to Ardmore at this time
that we reproduce th article in
full:
VMany ot the streets and alleys
of this city are in a filthy arid nn-
sanitary condition. The time of
year is at hand when cleanliness in
a city of this size is imperative
would pestilential diseases be avoid-
ed. Already the matter has been
neglected too long and numerous
deaths are the. direct result. This
is not guesswork. The best
physicians say the great amount of
sickness prevailing in the city is
due to the dirty streets alleys and
premises. The health department
should go promptly to work and
thoroughly clean every street alley
and piece of public ground and
then as promptly compel every
citizen toiec;. their premises clean.
There was a visitation of yellow
fever in the South hist year which
stagnated business for three or
four months; many believe that it
gained such a foothold that if it
has not been killed by the severe
winter its ravages this year will
be greater than ever before. There
are cases of meningitis and
dyphtheria in the city caused di-
rectly by dirty streets and alleys.
As the weather grows warmer
these conditions will become worse
unless the necessary precautions
are taken to clean up. Every
good citizen owes it to himself his
family and his neighbor to see that
his premises are kept clean and if
he will not Co it willingly the
authorities shot Id COnl iel him to
doit. The stmts and alleys are
the worst howevt r and the city
should clean them."
SUCCESSFUL PRESS OF TODAY
For quite a time after priutiug
pi esses become so common in this
country the churches stood aloft
from them. Religious news of all
kind was denied entrance to the
columns of the secular press.
But things have greatly changed
in the last four years. The secu-
lor press has become a very com-
mon as well as popular means of
communication with the outside
world and also a medium through
which the church may keep up
correspondence within its own
ranks.
And since the press has so lib-
erally tendered the use of its col-
umns to pastors and churches for
their use in carrying on their work
it is a very ungrateful preacher or
church that would speak despar
iugly or disrespectfully of the
secular press because they may
have stumbled upon some dirty
sheet whose columns are filled witli
slush and slop.
And since the secular press is
such an extensive means of com-
munication it is a very unwise
preacher that would ignore the op-
portunity of using its columns.
Our motto is to use all the printer's
ink that we possibly can to a good
advantage.
For this privilege we hereby
tender our thanks to our own home
papers the Ardmoreite and
Chronicle for their universal kind-
ness and courtesy to the pastors
and churches in the city. Much
space is given by these papers to
the churches in the way of announc-
ing and writing up all kinds of
special services. And every pas-
tor in the city is complimented with
both the dailies delivered at their
doors. J. S. Weaver.
I was reading an advertisement of
Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy in the Worcester
Enterprise recently which leads me
to write this. I can truthfully say I
never used an remedy equal to it
for colic and diarrhoea. 1 have never
had to use more than one or two
doses to cure the worst case with
myself and children. W. A. Stroud

caped death were getting all right.
