OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE CITY.
ARDMORE TUESDAY JULY 9.
HAVE THE ARDMOREITE
Sent to you if you are going away
for the summer. You want
to keep posted and the Ardmore -ite
contains all the news. Your
address will be changed as often as
desired. Fifty vents per month
postage prepaid.
Realizing that July 2$ is the
greatest day in the history of our
eity 'taking the place of every
other national holiday excepting
Christmas the Ardmoreite will
celebrate the occasion by the issn-
atffie of the most elaborate and
handsome souvenir edition ever
gotton up in this city or the Ind-
ian Territory. It will be purely
an Ardmore paper devoted to a
history of its various vicissitudes
of the eight years since its foun-
dation was laid and to a forecast
of its wonderful future possibil-
ities. The great fire of April 19
and the wonderful growth from
the ashes and ruins will be dealt
with in detail. In other words it
will tell the tale of Ardmore past
present and future. It will be
gotten up by the Ardmoreite
without the aid of tramp special-
ists of the Bordeaux and Barton
stripe. The undertaking is one of
magnitude and will entail a heavy
expense but we think we know
the temper of onr people sufficient
ly well to rely upon them for
. liWral support jn the way of pat
ronage a support that will not
only pay the expenses but give us
a reasonable profit.
The town site plan proposed by
the Dawes commission has one
feature of injustice about it that
will never be ratified bv congress.
even should it be engrafted upon a
treaty accepted by the Indians
V e allude to the proposition that
after the segregation of the town
sites from the common domain all
lots shall be sold to the highest
bidder. In dealing with this ques-
tion the fact must be lorne in mint
that the parties who have built the
towns and now live in them have
certain rights that must be respect
ed. In every town of the Chicka-
saw Nation propertv changes pos
session just as in any town in the
states though the original oecu
paqt obtaiued his right by purchase
or lease from an Indian citizen
Improvements in the towns the re
suit of the enterprise and energy of
the parties holding these lots have
largely increased the value of that
which was practically valueless un
til developed by the laW and can
ital of the occupants lots in some
of the leading towns on the best
streets selling when thev can be
bought at all at from $1000 up to
$3000 or more. Now what sem-
blance of justice would there le iu
compelling the man who has once
bought this lot to stand up and bid
for his own pyoperty against some
stranger who knows the vaine of
the lot but has done nothing to aid
in giving it such value and who
will run the price up to the highest
limit? Such a plan would be equal
to highway robbery. Purcell Register.
