- The Hon". Stump- Ahby of

delivered a lecture last night at
the Kloski opera house choosicg
for his subject ."What; of Ex
pansion!"
The speaker waa introduced by
Mr. Sidney Suggs in a few well
chosen words. . . - -
The Biblical researches oi iuc
speaker cropped out in bis lec-
ture almost from the beginning.
The speaker traced the history
of man from the '"beginning"
jointing out the right ana wrong
expansion.
Said he: - The ambition or ine
administration seems to be con
quest. Not many years ego the
federal" government bathed tne
an ii n V anil fh land in southern
blood to free 4.000.000 slaves to-
dav she has bathed the Philippine
iitini in American blood and
IOIHUUt7
paid an additional sum of $20
000000 that the etars and stripes
may float over a people of.no more
intellect than the African negro.
TIia admin istration in point of
ambition was by the speaker cora-

the monotonous pleasures of heaven
waged war with the hosts and the
fall of this government resulting
from wiong expansion .was com
pared to the fall of Lncifer.
Exnand in the right direction.
said he build railroads and tele
eragh lines and establish commer
cial relations with every other na
tion of the earth."
In support of the .-speaker'
theory he referred to the histonei
of Persia. Greece and Rome "and
told how they had lost their pre
tiere amonff nations aud crumbled
to the ground by advocating
wrong expansion.
He said posterity suffers the
taints of wrong.
The lecture full of logic was
inteisnersed with expressions of
the keenest wit. that were thor
ougbly enjoyed by the audience.
His - criticism on England's
course of conquest was applauded
The speaker regretted to see the
noble Irish and Scotch fall btt
believed that in the fall of an
Englishman the world was not im
poverished nor heaven enriched.
