They Can’t Dispute the Law.
SESSION LAWS 1907-1908
Chapter 26, Article 1, Section 7, Reads:
‘Tpon a transfer of territory from a county to a new county or
an existing county, suld now county to which said territory is trims-
fereil ahull he entitled to such proportionate part of She net assets of
the county from which said territory is taken us the taxable wealth
of the territory so transfered 1 tears the taxuble wealth ol the county
from which said territory Is taken, but if, as shown by the current
tax rolls, the liabilities of the county from which said territory is
taken shall exceed its resources at the time of Its transfer, the county
to which aald transfer is made shull puy to said county that pro-
portionate part of said excess us the taxable wealth of the territory
received bears to the taxable weulth of suid county.”

Many have disputed the argument put up by the Swanson County advo-
cates regarding the statement that the new county would get its proportionate
part of the net ussets of Kiowa and Comanche counties in the event the new
County of Swanson was formed—Read the Law—Don’t take our word for it.
Kiowa county Is out of debt, therefore we would get our full share ofits as-
sets. Comanche is not out of debt, but the part of Comanche which is proposed
to embrace In the new county has assets amounting to more than Its share of
indebtedness. You people over In the strip of land on Comunche’s western
border can easily see ttiat Its to your interest to get Into a county that would
sturt out with from $50,000 to $75,000 as its share of assets. Get Into the band
wagon. Vote “YES.”

The prohibition law may be a
farce—it is if you are tnakiug it
so, but to the luw abiding people
who respect that law as they do
other laws it is not, it means, or
should mean protection to them.
The person who ia not democratic
enough to abide by the laws made
by the soverigu power of the peo-
ple should go where laws or edicts
are issued at the will of u single-
despot—try Russia.—Mtu. Park
