No. 45, I. o. (>. F., Is Increasing, It
will not he long until It includes in
Its membership nearly nil the best,

country. The membership Is now
nearing seventy in good standlng.and
new applications arc coming in right
along. This lodge was starLed only a
llttlo over two years ago. with six
charter members, and has prospered
to that extent where it will soon he
able to bulhl a hall of Its own. It has
grown exceptionally fast In the last
four or live months, and the Indica-
tions are the membership will reach
the 100 mark before the present
winter is over. Odd Fellowship Is
progressive In Its character, and from
present indications No. 45 proposes
to carry out Ks teachings to the let-
ter, or as nearly so as possible. It
has already accomplished much good
in the community, and with n mem-
bership made up of good men from
among the farmers, the merchants,
the professional men, the ministry
and the day laborers, it Is in position
to accomplish much more for the
community in the future than In the
past. A properly conducted lodge is
a good thing in any community, and
the Journal hopes to see No. 45 con-
tinue to prosper.
—We are reliably informed that a
number of Democrats and Populists
io the vicinity of Wakita whom the
Herald denounced as “dogs" for hav-
ing voted the fusion ticket at the
late election, called at the office after
reading the Insult and had their sub-
scriptions discontinued. Loomis then
slopped all over himself In his next
issue trying to explain the insult
away, intimating that his “boyhood
recollections" caused liini to make
the blunder, and wound up by twist-
off a chunk of-‘taffy" for the candi-
dates elected on the fusion county
ticket, thereby hoping to square him

the decline In the price of eows and

The great trouble with Loomis is.

—A stranger asked us last Satur-
day if we knew where he could strike
a job feeding cattle or corn husking.
He said ho had been working od the
Orient railroad which is building
throug Woods county, but that the
pay was only 41.50 per day, and the
men were compelled to board with
t he contractor, paying $4 per week,
aud also had to purchase any and
everything else in the same way, pav-
ing about two prices for what they
got. He soon found that with an oc-
casional day lost on account of bad
weather there was no money in it for
him. so he quit the job. Men and
teams receive $2.50 per day and are
pinned down to the same terms.
—The good people of Manchester
and vicinity have decided to serve a
Thanksgiving dinner, free to every-
body, at the new church on Thanks-
giving day. Ail are invited and it is
hoped that all will be there, as there
will be piles upon piles of turkey,
chicken and everything else that is
good to eat. This dinner is not in-
tended fur poor people only, but
everyone alike—you and your family
and your wife’s folks—is invited to
come. A committee will be around
to see the ladies as to what they will
prepare for this dinner, and the
Journal hopes that each one will be
liberal in fixing for the Thanksgiving
feast
