— For Horse Stealing. — Albert
McKee of Oklahoma City was ar-
rested Monday evening by City Mar-
shall Jus. Clary tipun Information
from ntllc, era at Oklahoma City stat-
ing that lie was a fugitive from Jus-
tice, having escaped while under ar-
rest for horse stealing. McKee made
Ills escape in a peculiar way. lie was
(yrested some time ago and took sick
with small-pox soon after his arrest.
The officers in charge of him put a
chain upon him and placed him In the
small-pox pest-house on the outskirts
of Oklahoma City. Just as ho was
about over the disease lie made Ids
escape from the guards, freed himself
of the chain lie was carrying and
made his way to a point, a few miles
west of Manchester, where we under-
stand he has been working for about
three weeks, shucking corn across the
line in the state. When Mr. Clary
received word that McKee was want-
ed he went nut and hud but little
trouble in locating and arresting
him. He was brought, to Manchester
and locked up Monday night and was
afterwards turned over to the sheriff
from Oklahoma City, who came here
after him. McKee served a term of
one year in the penitentiary recently
for cattle stealing, and if reports are
true there is no doubt but thut lie
will be sent up again on the charge
for which lie is brought to answer at
tills time. We saw him at the jail
Tuesday morning, lie was in good
spirits and showed no signs of mi-
easiness, nor did he resemble the ap-
pearance of a tough character. It is
to be hoped that if innocent he will
hnve.no trouble in proving it, and if
guilty that the punishment lie re-
ceives will teach him a valuable and
lasting lesson. He is a man of medi-
um.size and appears to be about JO or
33 years or age. Ho lias no family
hut is said to have been married to a
widow lady two or three years ago
who Had live or six children but who
lias not lived with him for a lung
time.
