J. W. Bird of Bond Creek, rep-
ublican candidate for county judge
is 43 years of age, he was admitted
to practice law in Kansas, both in
the district and supreme courts,
prior to the opening of the Cherokee,
strip to settlement, came to Okla-
homa in that famous race .Septem-
ber 10th 1893 securing a homestead
five miles southwest of Bond Creek
on which lie lived and endured the
hard times with the rest of the
early settlers, making daily trips
from the farm to his office until
making proof.
He was admitted to practice law
in Oklahoma at the first term of
court ever held in this county (it
being at that time L County) early
in the spring of 1894, and has
since been admitted to practice be-
fore the supreme court of this state.
He is well known throughout the
county, if nominated will add
strength to the ticket and if elected
will make good conscientious and
conservative officer.

—J. Y. narvey has sold his farm
near Wakita and expects to
back to Anthony about the first of
August.—Anthony Republican.
—Charley Brown, the plasterer, has
returned to Manchester to stay, and
is ready to do any work you may have
in plastering, brick laying or cement
construction.

—Dr. McClurg, Wakita’s resident,
dentist, will be in his Manchester
office from the first Tuesday, 8 a. m.,
until Saturday noon of each month.

—A Grasser and son, Fred, were
over from Waldron Saturday. Fred
sail they came over on business, but
we believe they wanted to try out
their new Moline car. Fred is so
proud of that car that lie wouldn’t
stay out of it long enoug to play ball
Sunday.
—J. W. McCoy, of the firm of McCoy
& King, live stock commission merch-
ants of Kansas City, was here Satur-
day to look at a fine bunch of cattle
which E. F. and J. C. Burchfiel are
about ready to unload.
—F. C. Schul, living six miles south-
east of Manchester, will have a big
sale at the farm Wednesday, August
3rd. Mr. Schul has some fine stuff
down there, and will no doubt have a
big crowd.
—We saw Fred Foster guiding Cecil
Perkins’car along Main street Mon-
day, while Cecil was driving the
mules. Haven't found out what
happened to the car but the old mules
were taking it along alright.
--The show that pulled Into town
Monday morning camped on the
vacant lots south of the Badger lum-
ber yard. In the afternoon they put
ou a hot number and drew a large
crowd. The hot number consisted in
setting fire to the grass, aud the
crowd turned out to tight the flames,
which were making rapid strides to-
wards the lumber yard.
—Automobile Day has al ways been
a drawing feature. It occurs on Wed-
nesday this year. All owners and
move I drivers will be the guests of the fair
association. The procession to the
grounds must form on Main street at
1 o’clock, p. m., Grand parade around
the track at 1:15 p. m. One hundred
and fifty cars are assured and these
represent a money value of 8175,000.
—Frauk Smedley’s mouth is princi-

pally on one side this week. He was
pitching bundles into Dick Stone’s
machine Saturday and in some way
got his fork tangled up with the drive
belt. The handle struck him in the
mouth and we are told Frank la shy a
f:w teeth, aside from which he
escaped injury.
—W. T. Tucker, who has been in
the furniture and undertaking busi-
ness at Wakita the past seven years,
has sold out and will raise corn, hogs
