Notwithstanding the fact that
there is a city ordinance prohibiting
the throwing of rubbish into the
alleys and upon the streets, it seems
to be done right along, and has be-
come an intolerable nuisance. Our
citisens who take a pride in keeping
their premises clean, are kept busy
gathering up waste paper and other
refuse that is carried by the wind
all over town. The nuisance should
be abated and the way to do it is to
impose a fine upon those who wil-
fully violate the ordinance relating
there to.

JOHNNY, GO
GET YOUR GUN
Last week attention was called,
through the columns of this news-
paper, to the new burglar proof
vault to be installed by the First
National Bank of Watonga. It
was mentioned in that issue that
this is the only vault ever construct-
ed which cannot be entered without
giving an alarm which may be
heard a mile away. We learn that
the device consists of two steel
vaults with a very thin strip of in-
sulation between. These steel
plates cover floor, ceiling, walls and
door. Both are charged with elec-
tricity, one being the positive and
one the negative pole of the batter-
ies. A three pounds weight upon
one brings it in contact with the
other and it is then that the big
gongs are set ringing. If a hole
the size of a pin, head is bored in
one plate and a needle is thrust ’ in
against the other, the bells begin
to sound. If a drop of water, a
well known electrical conductor, is
placed between the plates the connec-
tion is at once made and the alarm
is sprung. The use of any explosive
such as nitro glycerin would mean
instant death to the person putting
it in. A reporter said to Mr. Wheel-
ock the other day, “Yes, but sup-
pose a burglar cuts the wires, could
he not defeat the device and pro-
ceed with his work?” Mr. Wheel-
ock replied, “How can he cut the
wires when the wires and the whole
apparatus are inside? There are
over a hundred volts of electricity
in them, but before that can be cut
off, the burglar must get through
the walls, and five minutes after he
has made his first attempt to tam-
per with this vault, there will be a
hundred people outside to watch
him run, for no one will be able to
sleep while the big gongs are ring-
ing. We are going to give a public
demonstration of this vault on Sat-
urday, the thirteenth of the month.
On that day we’ll be glad to show
every one how it works. But after
that—if you ever hear that gong
ring, get you gun and come down
