—Three automobiles passed through
Manchester from Medford last Satur
day on theirway to Colorado. County
attorney F. G. Walling and wife and
his father-in-law, Tom Adams and
wife, were among the party. They
expect to join F. J. Gentry and others
from Grant county when they reach
the mountains. It will be a most
delightful trip.
Reo Automobiles are made in three
styles—Touring Car, Roadster and
Runabout. The cut above shows the
Roadster, one of the swiftest, most
durable, easiest riding and cheapest
machines, all things considered, that
is on the market today. The Roadster
has an emergency seat behind, a
pretty box when doubled up, but it
opens up a cushioned seat and four
people can ride as well as two.
In the Reo Touring Car, where
you want to take the whole family,
there is nothing that beats them.
There are five of these cars In daily
use In Manchester, and they do their
work to perfection.
Again, these cars are within the
read) of most people in this part of
the country. It is a mistaken idea
that people must be rich to own and
operate an automobile. You brought
no wealth with you when you came to
this world, and you cannot take any
away. When it comes to operating
and caring for one of these machines,
I would rather have the skill of an
experienced farmer, as a general rule,
than that of the business man in town,
and there is no reason whatever why
many our farmers should own automo-
biles. A large per cent of r.hem could
own autos if they only thought so,
and their heads are level enough to
run them. To get the best results
and the longest life, they require the
same care that any other machine re
quires, and properly cared for and
properly used they will last for years.
I have taken the agency at Manch-
ester for these, and other makes of
cars (though I consider the Reo super-
ior to any other make) and will make
tiie closest possible price to any and all
who contemplate buying.

MARKET LETTER.
Special to the Journal.
Kansas City Stock Yards, Aug 3.
Extreme hot weather affords buyers
an excuse to demand lower prices,
althougti receipts of cattle at all the
markets continues to run below the
corresponding time last year. Prices
made a net loss of 10 to 25 cents last
week, after an uneven market all
week. Top steers sold at $7.20 on
different days, and while these steers
were not prime, it would seem as
though fancy prices have been
eliminated for the present. The
supply today is heavier thau on any
recent Monday, at 17,000 head, in
eluding 2000eauves, market steady to
10 lower. A liberal supply at all
markets today, and the prospects of
long hot spell are against any
urgent demand on the part of killers
Nothing toppy is here today, best
fed steers quotable at 6.25 to 7.25,
grass steers of good weights 4.50 to
C 25, medium to common grassers 3.75
to 4 40, grass cows 2 50 to 3.50, bulls
2.40 to 3.25, veals a quarter higher
than a week ago, tops 6,25. Stockers
and feeders declined 10 to 15 cents
duriug the last week, although a good
demand late in the week enabled
traders to make a good clearance
Shipments were of about the same
volume last week as the week before,
300 car loads. Market is steady to 10
lower today on country kinds, Stock-
ers mainly at 3.25 to 4 25, feeders 3.75
to 4 50, a few above these figures.
The hog market made a gain of 37
cents per cwt. last week, under the
influence of light marketing, although
packers continue to resent the ad-
vancing prices, account of unsatis-
factory provisions market. Run is
000 liere today, market 10 to20 lower,
and almost a quarter below last Fri-
day, high time last week. Top today
is 6.6.5, bulk of sales 6.45 to 6.70. The
high price of corn has induced many
owners to substitute come cheaper
feed in fattening hogs, but the In-
ferior killing qualities of these makes
them unpopular, and buyers quickly
detect them, and cut the price ac-
cordingly. Country buyers should
allow wide margins for such.
