Tbc secretary of tbe Ok l*homo
bo'-rd of agnealture boa issued bia
first fruit bulletin for 1907, «a fol-
io wa:
Not tbe leoat amazing feature of
tbe Okloboma democratic primary
was tbe overwhelming sentiment
for state wide prohibition. To this
fact is attributed tbe aaceesa of C.
N. Haskell, tbe aomiaee for gov-
ernor, whose race surprised tbe
politicians and upset all (be plans
of the ‘‘organisation" leaders.
Lee Uroee, who bad beeo selected
by tbe politicians as eertaiu to lead
in tbe contest for governor, advo*
cated local option as the best moth-
od for regulating tbe liquor traffic
Haskell openly favored prohibition
and upon this issue the democratic
voters have named Haskell as (heir
standard bearer. Cruse polled a
heavy vote in tbe cities and towns,
but tbe rural districts voted for
prohibition.
Oklahomans have seen enough of
tbe workings of tbe primary avstem
to be disappointed. Tbe Oklaho-
ma primaries have proven to be a
moat expensive luxury. Lee Grace.
gubernatorial candidate, struck the
the kevnote in bia speech at Gath
rie iu which be declared that if
Andrew Carnegie wished to find a
means of getting rid of his wealth,
other than tbe library route, be
should come to Oklahoma and run
far governor in tbe democratic
primaries.
Tbe strawberry crop, which is
about done, was decidedly unsatis-
factory in yield, but good prices
prevailed.
Tbe blackberries now just com-
ing on to tbe market are a lull
crop, but already a complaint is
heard on all sides because of tbe
low prices offered.
Cherries are a complete failure,
barely furnishing enough for tbe
blue java, and of an inferior qual-
ity.
Plums of nearly all kinds arc a
full crop.
Tbe late frosts and continued
cold, unseasonable weather have
reduced the grape crop fully 50 per
ceut nud tbe best of weatber con-
ditions hereafter will not remedy
tbe situation so far as this year’s
cron is concerned.
Throughout that section of Ok-
abotna wbere commercial peach
orubardiog is extensively practiced,
the growers are all busy arranging
details for tbe gathering and mar
ketiug of tbe largest peach crop in
the history of the territory. Pick-
ings will begin somewhat earlier
this hchbou than common, about
July 5th, iu the southern portion
ot the territory and perhaps ten
days later in tbe extreme northern
portion.
Tbe outlook for an apple crop iu
Oklahoma was never quite
promising as at this time.
James H. Garfield, secretaiv of
tbe interior, is aagagtd just now
in trviog to formulate a aew police
for tbe government of tbe Indian
territorv. He know* there ia some-
thing wrong with tbe preeeat
policy which be inherited and that
it ebonld be changed, but admits
tbat it ia a perplexing question to
solve.

Primary nominations for state
officers are breeders of trouble. It
looks now as if tbe coarts will have
to decide who has been nominated
for governor. On the face of the
returns, Haskell has beaten Crnce
for governor from 2,500 to 3.500,
and Gore has defeated Hoffman for
senator about 1.000. Fraud is
charged in both cases, and un
doubtedlv the nomination of Has
kell will be contested.
Tbe constitntion is a failure, the
primary is a failure, the squaw meo
are a failure. Fortunately the
people of Oklahoma cau reject the
constitution, coudeum the primary
and defeat the squaw men. Then
under a decent constitution, state
hood will come under fair
equal conditions to all.
Thousands of good democrat*
are coming out every day against
the Murray constitution. There is
now talk of a democratic auti-
constitution league aud its mem-
bership would reach 50.000 before
election day.
The Constitution Should be Re-
jected Here.
There ia a growing feeling that
the Murray conatitution, with its
mauv provisions conflicting with
the federal constitution, will nevei
ba accepted by the president even
if adopted by a majoiity of tbe
people of tbe two territories. It is
probably true, but such a feeling
should not influence voters against
its rejection at tbe election. The
documeut should never be allowec
to reach tbe president for bis de
cisiou. It should be defeated here
at home, and bo decisively as to
show tbe coutempt of the people
for .its unfair provisions aud the
method ot its construction.
The people of the two territories
ard can well afford to wait a few
months longer and get a coustitu
tiou that will allow of statebooi
under eonditious fair to all and for
tbe best mterests of all.
