on Rental Flan,
A meeting was hold at Paw-
huska a few days ago, .at
which plans were formulate d
for the erection of a county
court house, for Osage oovin-
tv, to bo built on what is gen-
erally known as the “rental
plan.”
If a call was issued for a
meeting, we failed to notice
it, but the Pawhuska Capital
has the following to say?of
the meeting:
“At a meeting of represen
tative electors and tax payers
of Osage county at the court
room last Monday steps were
taken to at once secure the
erection of'a courthouse.
This is a move in the right
direction and the building
should be of ample propor-
tions to meet the needs of the
county and facilitate the
transactions of the bus^ic-ss
quiry brought out the fact
th at the negro had told others

A petition is being circulated
and generously signed this week,
asking the sc lool board to call an
elertion for the purpose of voting
bonds iu the sum of $25,000 to
build another school building in
Hominy. The school board has
notified Trustee Moore Williams
that they desire to hold a bond
election, and Mr. Williams is ex-
pected here today to poll the vot-
ers ot the district and certify the
list to County Superintendent
Gill.
As soon as this preliminary
work is cfimpleted the election
will be called, and it will ther
rest with the people whether

Do not get ti e idea that $25,-
000 school bonds will be a heavy
burden on the district tor it as-
suredly will not. You will scarce-
ly notice the difference in your
taxes, but if you have children to
school, toucan and will notice a
decided change in their progress
if they are given the best possi-
ble advantages.

The board of county com-

signed by a thousand of the
qualified electors and taxpay-

ing any action in the matter:”
Apropos to the above, peti-
tions are being circulated in
Pawhuska and personal let-

fices of Leahy, Scott A Tem-
pleton, are being sent out
over the county, each con-
taining the following letter

Gentlemen:
In the matter of building a
court house on the rental plan,
I desire to say that the same
meets with my approval, if
in your judgment, you deem
it expedient and to the best
interests of the county that
a court house be built in that

Bad Nigger Shoots.
On the north bound Katy
- passenger Sunday night com-
I ling from Oklahoma City was
cU bad negro, who refused tu
pay his fare. "When the train
reached Jennings the auditor
again asked the burly coon
for his fare, and for answer
the.negro pulled an automatic
o* and began firing.
Four shots struck the dodg-
ing auditor who was unarmed
but none inllicted more than
light flesh wounds. One bul-
let cut off the lower part of
the auditor’s ear. while anoth-
er just broke the skin on his
left breast. The third shot
II grazed his shoulder and the
51 fourth passed through the
I Meshv part of his left tliigh.

A few days ago the Kvv.sa
City Journal, iu its Oklahoma
notes, contained an item stating
that Hominy was preparing a pe-
tition to present io the next state
legislature, and would, through
the influence ot' their representa-
tive Hon. Prentiss Price, make
an effort to divide Osage county
and have Hominy designated a
a county seat.
The News-Republican does not
know who furnished the Jomna
this information, but it doe
know that the statement is en
tirely without foundation. Rep-
resentative Brice has openly am
repeatedly declared himself in fa
vorof one county, and will b_-
found in the next legislature of
OkLihotna, fighting to pre-erve
the metes and bounds of Osxgc-
county, and i: would seem frot
present indica ious rhat he will
nave to do some tall scrapping if
je succeeds in keeping Tulsa an
Washington counties “off the
.” If, as we surmise, the
Journal item was put out by
Washington and Tuisa ccuatie?
«sa “leeler” to find ou’.just hov.
Representative Price stands, they
have their answer—he is for one
county.
Held Without Bail.
The preliminary hearing of I
Dan, Will and Jim Parker, held;
before Justice R. L. McCain at
Pawhuska last Friday, resulted!
in the three brothers being held
without bull to await the action
of the grand jury.
Dan Parker was not able to be
present at the preliminary trial,
but is now reported much im-
proved and will soon be able to
leave his bed.
