Spain’s torpedo flotilla are on the
other side of the Atlantic. They
stand an excellent chance of staying
there or going to the bottom if they
attempt to cross over to Porto Rico
or Cuba. The United States navy
will be ready for them. Even with
the entire Spanish navy as a convoy
they could hardly get to this side of
the water now.

Agents for ell tbe big horse and
mule firms of Ksosae City are scour
log the country hereabouts for tbe
patient long eared beast.
This action was decided upon Friday
evening after a conference between
the members of tbe different firms.
Already the government, through
Major A. L. Smith, has received
bids for 1,0(30 mules and these bids
will be opened, Saturday afternoon,
by the quartermaster at St. Louis.
This is the first orders and tbe deal-
ers say it will follow by others with-
tu a few days. As the greatest mule
market in tbe world, Kansas City
will be called upon to furnish most
of the supplies. Dealers say they
can get 5,000 on a week’s notice and
that the government can have more
if it needs them.
Uncle Sam realizes that wagon
trains can not be used successfully in
~uba, so pack mules are in demand.
These are mules to be purchased in
Kansas City. They are small but
sturday and surefooted.

CHOCTAW CITY
Washington, April It.—If war is
delayed much longer, said a naval
officer this morning, the Spaniards
will be in nearly as good fighting
trim as ourselves. As a matter of
fact every hour that we give them
for preparation is a very grievous
mistake. At present the markets of j
the world are open to epain as well i
as to ue. If war is declared these
markets will be closed to all business
in war materials, coal and tbe like.
With foreign markets closed Spain
will be powerless to make any more
propositions to get supplies. We
have vast resources of our own mag
nificent country to draw on and can
do very well without the maikets of
other countries. We can do without
them for a good long while and not
feel the need of them either. As
soon as Spain exhausts the supplies
she has on hand at the out set of
the war, she would be powerless to
keep up the struggle. It, therefore,
behooves congress to stop talk as
soon as possible, and let the war
start if it is to start at all.
