Deafness Cannot be Cured
by local applications, ns they cannot reach th*
diseased portion of tho ear. There it only one
way to cure deafness, and that is by constitu-
tionnl remedies. Deafness is caused by an
inflamed condition of the mucous lining
of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is in-
flamod you have a rumbling sound, or imperfect
hearing, nnd when it is entirely closed deafness
is the result, ami unless the iuflamation can be

condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine
cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is

A Michigan girl confessed to hot
paator that she had received attention
from several young men and thul fif-
teen of them had kissed her. The
chief point of this profession seems
to be that there are two mighty lucky
young men in Michigan.
At the>request of a number of young
women living on Kissam street in
Cleveland, O., the name of that thor-
oughfare haa hern changed by the city
board of control to Ellandale avenue.
When the street car conductors sang
out “Kissam” it had sort of a sound
which the men passengers were al-
ways in danger of mistaking for a com-

the car.

by the natives as a specific remedy for

Considering the rapidity of the firing
and thr great expenditure of ammuni-
tion, thr nutnlirr killed ia compara-
tively small, probably under 200.
Altogether, the Itehavlor of (h*
Turkish troops was better than that
of the Greeks. Their olHeer* remained
root and collected.
The firing still continues, hut it I*

I .on imix, April 10.—Tho Kluosonn
correspondent of the Time* say*: The
results of thg fighting are indecisive.
Accounts of it are biased according as
they come from Greek or Turkish
sources. It appears, however, pretty
certain that the Turks had the ad-
vantage. Tho Greeks were partially
successful in their movement at Karva,
which was aimed at cutting off the
Turkish communications with Salon-
ica, where the Greek fleet is expected
almost immediately. There is no news
yet of land fighting from Epirus, us
the ruitlcrs failed to hold Kraniu.
A dispatch to the Daily Chronicle
from Athens, dated midnight, says the
Greeks have captured Menexa after
severe fighting. The Turkish losses
were very heavy, the Greek compara-
tively light. The correspondent adds:
“The Greek fleet lias destroyed half
the fortresses at Prevesa and silenced
the guns, i 11111 assured that the bom-
barding will be continued to-inorrow
(Monday) morning. The latest news
received here is that the Greeks have
captured und held all the positions ex-
cept Ana and Milottna, along the Thes-
snlyan line.
“I visited the hospital to-day (Sun-
day) und found all admirably conduct-
ed. But the scene was most distress-
ing, the wounded screaming in their
agony and feverishly tearing the bed-
' ding in their delirium.
“In Saturday's hill fighting, the
Turks had fhe advantage. They were
judiciously ambushed behind the rocks
I and from their sheltered positions
| maintained an incessant fire.
“To-day’s (Sunday’s) fighting at Mi-
louna pass took place around three
outlying blockhouses, which were cap-
tured, then retaken, captured again
I and again retaken. The Greek posi-
tions suffered severely from the splen-
did shrapnel practice of the Turkish
batteries at a range of It,800 meters.
Columns of smoke could be seen rising
in every direction from the Greek po-
sitions, caused by the Turkish shell
fire- The Greeks defended with the
greatest courage, but were not able to
stand against, the slow but steady ad-
vance of the Turks.
“As evening came on. three ot the 1
Greeks’ outworks surrendered and '
asked tIn* Turks to cease the shell fire, i
The latter now bold the advanced
lino except at. one spot.
“The. principal fighting done by the
Turkish infantry was at Skumba and
Dumenie, to the right of the pass."

riage license wants the probate judge
to keep the matter a secret. One man
recently requested that his license be
kept dark for a mouth. If a man ex-
pects to get murried in puhlia at a
leading church, he insists that the
probate judge shall not giv* away the
remarkable fact that lie procurod a li-
cense. The fact is that when a inun
1 goes to get a license lie is the biggest
fool on earth, and imsu’t sense enough
, to know how to conduct himself.
