Uncle Dick Bonds was in town
Saturday and says he will leave
within a short time for his old
home in Mississippi where he will
spend the spring and surrmer
He has rented his farms south of
town and will not make a crop
this year.
Miss Audie Warren who has
r>een very sick with pneumonia
for soma time is still said to be
verv low and will be confined to
Ijer bed for some time yet Oth-

the night of tbe 10th we had an
other scare. I waa sleeping aa

submarine. Well 1 waa seared
and immediately began to move
just then a huge wave hit the
side of the ship, thinking it was
a torpedo I jumped out of bed.
put on my life belt while in tbe
air and hit the floor making
about 40 per. I ran up the stairs
out seeing the hatohways were
not open I knew there was no
danger eo began walking to the
foot of the ladder leading out on
deck. My Sereeant passed me
and began with his words that
he used in drilling us. ' Hurry
it up men, hurry it up. Alright
boys make snappy." He then
went up the ladder and 1 went
back to bed From that day we
were in the danger zone and
more precautions were taken
There was more or less excite-
ment from that day. Some of!
the boys claimed they saw sub* ;
marines. I did not. On the 12
day we were made to get up at^
four o'clock and come out on
deok until seven. There wes
more danger at Bun up or sun
down than at any other time of
the day. On 14th about 6:30
while standing on deck waiting:
