THE WAR IS OVER
THE county neat flght pull-
,itl ulf in Jackaon county laat
Saturday will be one Jong re*
j mcmbered. The enthusiasm dis-
played at thin election and the
rain Friday night brought forth
a larger vote than will I* polled
at any future election. For one
month the war waged warm be-
tween the contestant*, Altus and
Olustee. Both sides wasted
neither time nor expense to cop
the coveted prize. Early in the
tight Altus said it "got every-
thing it went after," but us west
side fellows thought this wat
one time Altus' boast would fail
to materialize. However, it didn't
as the defeat of Olustee will
| testify. . . t
The county seat has been locat-
I ed by a majority vote of the peo-
Sle, and Altus is the canitol of
ackson county. The Courier
; burned a great deal of mid-nigh«
oil to defeat Altus. It fourht
for what it thought was right
and just. From our view of the
matter we don't believe wt
threw any unjust mud. Our
statements we could back. But
we are licked, and like a good
Samaritan we are willing to
abide by the decision of the ma-
jority, and believe we'll have no
room to complain in the future.
We are aware of the fact we said
some pretty mean things about
the Altus papers but our conso-
lation rests upon the one fact
that we got value received in re-
turn.
The Altus people are nothing
like so mean a? pictured in the
late campaign. Altus did noth-
ing more than any other town

to do it* part In the upbuilding of
i Rld«rado and country, and we
believe a careful Inspection of,
'.Mir Ale* will ahuw that we have
,done it.
Our good farmer* and bu»i-
nee* men art the people who
have made the. Courier what it
i* today. There la not a paper
in a town Eldorado'* «is« that
fan boa*t of aa good merchanta
the col urn* of the Courier
a ill bear out the statement.
Had It not been for their liberal-
ity we would not have been here
today, that's all They have
supported ua until we have suc-
ceeded in building a
_ home, and a
newspaper office that will be a
credit to thia town when it reach-
es 2.000 inhabitanta.
To hand oursolvea a boquet wc
will say that nearly every state
in the union know* that there ia
ah Eldorado. Oklahoma, and we
ire sincere when we say the
Courier waa pretty much the
jause of them knowing it It is
utid if you don't toot your own
horn no one will toot it for you.
We may hare made some enemies
since our stay here, but it was of
the head, not of the heart We
realize to make a paper of any
account we must have enemies.
As we have already stated the
merchants have been liberal with
the Coubier. and we hope they
will so continue. We believe we
are giving value received. All
we have made we have invested
in Eldorado; we propose to live
here so long as the good people
will allow us, and we propose to
continue investing our earnings
here.
With this little notice we doff
our hat.
Of course there were many
promises made by the town that
would win the county seat and
time only will tell the truthful-
ness of the statement
