niqne and interpretation. The
opening number. Gottschalk's
" l^ast Hope." was a favorite with
her hearers, aud all her selections
were heartily applauded. The ex-
planatory remarks by Mrs. Thorpe
which prefaced several numbers,
concerning their history and mean-
ing. were greatly appreciated and
