TUFT NOW HNS HIRD TASK
REVISION OF TARIFF IS NO
SMALL MATTER
irumiON 15 BROWING MORE PRECARIOUS
Aldrichs Tariff Bill Will Not Net Suf-
ficient Revenue to Run Gov-
ernment—Taft, Asks for
Information
Washington, D. C.—Convinced that
Senator Aldrleh's tariff bill will not
bring in sufficient revenue to tun the
government even with ttie hlg'i rates ^
of duties he proposes, and satisfied
that Senator Aldrich himself is not t
sincere In his statements I h it therj ;
will be enough money secured, most
every western member of I ha senate
Is looking beyond the end of the sin-
rial session of congress with a specu-
lative view of how President rait '
will raise the money, for uuder the
provisions of a bill passed at tha j
last ssesssion it is up to the i>res)- |
dent.
The effect.? of tho new tariff law
will be known before the close of
the next regular session of congress, ;
and probably not before. It is expect-
ed that the spring business, tli » im- j
portatlons for the fiscal year ending i
Junne 30, 1910, wil be convincing as j
to what can be expected from the tar-
iff bill, and that a definite idea can-
not be secured before that time.
Tint President Taft fully reali/.ea
the drift of events is shown in tne !
fact that even now he is calling for
official statements of the amount >'f
revenues received, the sources from
which they come, the expenditures
of each of the various departments ol
the government, and all with a view
of finding out where the expense can ;
be cut, and where most of the money ]
is coining from. It io expected that !
this report will be completed by the
llrst of May.
WHAT COLORS SHALL I USE?
Thl« Question It Important in Painting
a House or Other Building.
A proper color scheme is extremely
important In painting a house. It
makes all the difference between a
really attractive home and one at
which you wouldn't take a second
glance. And it makes a big difference
in the price the property will bring on
the market.
As to the exterior, a good deal de- j
;ends upon the size and architecture
of the house, and upon its surround-
ings. For a good interior effect you
must consider the size of the rooms,
the light, etc.
You can avoid disappointment by
studying the books of color schemes
for both exterior and Interior painting,
which can be had free by writing Na-
tional Lead Company, 1902 Trinity
Building, New York, and asking for
Houseowner's Painting Outfit No. 49.
The outfit also includes specifications,
and a simple Instrument for testing
the purity of paint materials. Pure
White Lead which will stand the test
in this outfit will stand the weather
test. National Lead Company's fa-
mous Dutch Hoy Painter trademark
on the keg is a guarantee of that kind
of white lead.
ANOTHER BORING QUESTION.
BLOOD FLOWS IN STREETS
ChriLtians Die at the Hands of Blood-
thirsty Men
Constantinople.—Huddled together
in churches and public buildings in
Hadjin like frightened sheep, terror
written In their faces, ten thousand
Christians are momentarily expecting
to be massacred, according to report.!
received in the Turkish capital Mon-
day. Moslem fanatics have surround
od them and it is reported that al
ready hundreds of Armenians whc
hive dared to forsake the religion ol
their fathers, have fallen martyrs tc
their beliefs.
The streets are running with Chris
(ions' blood. The slaughter is being
tarried on promiscuously in all sec
tions. A small church In which prob
abluy two hundred men, women and
children had taken refuge was fired j
by the pillagers, and the screams of
the slowly burning people were plain
ly audible for almost a mile. A few
Unowink that to venture upon the
afreets would mean a less torturous
death, ran from the burning build
ing only to be caught upon the bay-
onets of the invaders.
Children were tossed into the ait
and caught upon the bloody guns !
spun round and round, their little \
bodies thrown to the streets to bt i
trampled into a quivering mass In
the demon invaders. Women, it it
reported, are beinf shot down in the j
streets or are being carried off ink j
a bondage more horrible than deatt
itself.
Storm Hitlij Centrahoma
Centrahoma, Okla.—One person was
fatally injured, 15 others sustained
broken limbs and bruise.?, 12 houses
were almost totally wrecked and ev
ery building in the lown more or lea;;
damaged by a storm of rain, hail and
wind, in which a twister was inter
woven, that passed over the vicinity
of Centrahoma shortly after noon on
Monday. The rain came in torrents
resembling a cloud burst and the!
streets of the town were filled with j
water an.I debris from the wrecked
houses, outhouses, fences and other
movable objects.
School Land Lessees
Chickasha. Okla.—Over two hun-
dred school land lessees met in the
court room in this city Saturday and
passed strong resolutions condemn-
ing the apraisement of the school
lauds. It was also determined to em-
ploy a lawyer and fight the Increased
payment called for under the last ay-
|)rala«ment.
Woman's Beauty
Some women retain their beaut}' to an advanced I
jape. But women, who regularly endure pain, age
rapidly, for suffering leaves its lasting marks on
them.
Nearly all women suffer more or less with some
form of female trouble. It should not be neglected.!
Avoid the pain—treat yourself at home by taking
Cardui, as thousands of other women have done, j
Begin at once and give Cardui a fair trial.
TAKE
CARDUI
It Will Help You
J 36
Mrs. Katie Tiurlison, Goreville, Til., tried Cardui and writes:
"I suffered with female troubles, and was so sick T could not stand 1
on my feet. Finally 1 began to take Cardui, and soon began to
mend. Xow I am able to do all my housework and am in much |
better health than I was before." Try it.

The Reverend and the Irreverent.
Bishop Doane of Albany, N. Y., who

where the irreverent Dr. Hosmer was

They sat down. "I suppose," said
the bishop, "that I shall ask grace."
"But why. my dear bishop," Inter-
posed Hosmer; "why talk shop at the
table?"—Saturday Evening Post.
