The December Offering.
Collection envelops have been sent
out to the several churches throughout
the territory during the past week. In
most instances they have been sent to
the preachers. The object is to render
all assistance possible in securing a
liberal offering for territorial missions
the tlrst Lord's day in December, or as
soon thereafter as possible. Much de-
ponds upon this offering being both
general and generous. Just now we
are to demonstrate, by the interest we
take in this offering, how much we are
in favor of a well directed effort look-
ing to good organization and effective
missionary work throughout the terri-
tory. We should have not less than
*l,0iraised in Oklahoma for mission
work before our next convention.
If we all act together and promptly
there may be several brethren doing
work under the territorial board soon.
The A. C. M. C. goes on the principle
that the Lord helps them who help
themselves. If we do our part in seem-
ing generous offerings, we will get gen-
erous assistance from them. If not. we
will go on much as we have, doing but
little for ourselves and receiving but
little from them.
Brethren, the matter largely with
u*. What will we do? Your secretary
will, after December 1. devote all his
time to the work in Oklahoma. He will
try to help as many churches and
preachers as possible, by securing pas-
tors for churches and churches for pas

Letters like this one. not only en-

to the general status of the work of in-
calculable value to your missionarj*
Board. Let us have a couple of columns
of t hem in our issue two weeks hence.
A Word of Warning and Encouragement.
The Oklahoma Christian now goes
into about l.OiHi homes. Each paper is
j probablj* read by an average of three
persons. Brethren, this makes quite
an audience. Have you ever noticed.
I brother preacher, how careful you have
| been in the preparation of your sermons
j when you thought j"ou were to have a
I large audience to hear vou preach?
How every statement was tried by the
: word of Cod. and how you felt that the
i probable destiny of more than one itn
j mortal soul might depend upon what
you should say in this particular ser-
mon? This is why the preacher, who
feels as he should the immortal inter
ests at stake, trembles when he comes
: before his audience to speak to them of
Jesus t'hrist their only Savior- and
their need of turning to him that they
may have everlasting life.
Let us. in this early issue of the Ok-
lahoma Christi an, say a word by way
of caution and encouragement to each
writer for thh paper. Brother, sister.
! (for we trust we may have both) vou
are writing to a large audience. All
have souls to save, and lives to be
trained for usefulness in the Master's
service here and now. How careful we i —
should be in what we write. Try as p NEWflAN
earnestly to lead souls to Christ as if '
you were in the midst of a revival set-
vice. and then be just as careful in
training young Christians as if you were
the pastor of a church of new converts.
Try what you write by the word of Cod
Be sure that it has in it the spirit of
Christ. And in order that this mav he
so, pray, pray often and earnestly, that
the Lord may bless you in blessing
others.
Now, by way of encouragement. Vou
are not so likely to be misunderstood in
gether that we inay arm ourselves for
the duty that lies before us, that we
maj' be able to keep the house of God
in proper condition, that when minis
ters come to our aid they will not have
to labor fora fort-night toget the breth
ren in working order. Brethren there
is much to be done; let us do it.
I visited Seward on the 17th uIt. and
preached eight discourses to a small
audience the most of the time till the
last night we closed. We promised to
return December 20, when we propose
to stay a week, and in February we ex
pect to go and stay the whole month.
Everj'bodj' is invited to attend and give
Bible questions, and we will in return
give you Bible answers and thanks be-
sides. Let us form a resolve to learn
and know the truth for ourselves.
I then went to Bethanj' where I spent
a week and had the pleasure of finding
a well tilled house for prayer meeting,
and on Lord's daj- was tilled with de-
light while listening to a discourse from
Brother John Wilson 011 the patience
of Job, and his application of his sub-
ject to the brethren of this age.
1 had the pleasure of hearing Brother
Win. Elinor Baker, on the subject of
Light, which was well arranged and
plainly set forth. Brother E. II. Co*
followed with a few and well-timed re
marks. The congregation has been or
ganized fourteen months and has al
ready turned out three licensed public
preachers, and one that is not yet lie
ensed but will be as soon as the coil
gregation can get his consent. Wm
