OCTOBER RECORD
Government Expenditures for Month
Including .Loans to Allies Total
More Than One Billion
Washington, October 28.—Govern- ;
ment expenditure of oin billion dollar;, :
is the record which the month of Oc- I
tobcr has established at the treasury
department. The total which includes
loans to the allies may increase even
this huge sutn, possibly by $100,000,000.
Thus far it stands at $985,342,387 with
i yesterday's spending not included. For
j the twenty-three working days thus far
! counted it shows average expenditures
' of approximately $42,(00,000 daffy or
almost $30,000 every minute of the day
i and night.
Expenditures for last Friday, the
latest record published were $68,9jS,948
but this was an unusual day, consid-
| erably higher than the average, though
not by any means a record.
This increase in the daily expendi-
tures is greater at the present time than
j it was a month ago and is steadily
{ growing. It is thought that it will con
[ tinue to grow. A two-billion dollar
I month, officials assert, is not far off.
I It may be reached with the retirement
i of short time tifeasury certificates—
* to be met out of Liberty bond receipts
| by mid-winter.
