JjastThi..sd».Un negro, who
had been work'ag for L. La'i-.rh-
iin, decided to <,uit. He «iafl a
right to quit, we suppose, but he
thought he needed one of Mc-
Laughlin's teams and took it with
him.
The negro, accompanied by ms
wife, drove the team to Hallett
where he disposed of the team
for $101.00, receiving a check on
a Cleveland bank. Going to
Cleveland to cash the check, he
was apprehended and now is ly-
ing in the Payne County Jail a-
waiting trial.

The members of tho Christian
church on Tuesday evening ten-
dered a reception to Harold Vock«
rodt and Mrs. Ruth Newlon. The
reception was held at the
church. Mrs. Newlon, who has
long been a worthy and efficient
member of this church, expects
soon to leave for Payette, Idaho,
where Mr. Newlon has preceded
her. Uncle "Hi" <ind Aunt Ruth
will be much missed. Harold
Voekrodt is also a member and
leaves today ofr San Francisco,
to continue his work as electric-
ian in the U. S. navy.
Every housewife and some
housemen in Cushing, is busy
paring and canning and preserv-
ing peaches, the abundance and
cheapness fo which is an incen-
tive to the work. The race for
champion peeler lies between L.
H. Owen, Geo. Michels, Prof.
Jones and Jesse Slick. The lat-
ter seems to get the biggest pile
of parings on the floor, but Lew
does his own canning and Prof,
sfieks to it the longest at a time
while Michels says he can pare
three to their one.
