Other Roads Attack Two-Cent Fare
Guthrie, Okla..—Suits were filed by
the Frisco nnd Rock Island railroads
hare Thursday to annul the Oklaho-
ma two-cent faro law insofar as it
applies to those roads.
The suit also ask to relieve the
companlos from the orders of the
state corporation commission as re-
gards freight rates on certain com-
modities. The suits are along the
same lines and involve the same ques-
tions as those recently decided in fa-
vor of the Katy and Santa Fe rail-
roads by Federal Judge Hook at St.
Louis.
Here, as In the former cases, the
railroads allege that both the freight
and passenger rates are confiscatory
and therefore unconstitutional.
The action of these railroads was
anticipated but was not expected im-
mediately.
Although no direct admission* are
made. It is known that the freight
and passenger business of both the
Reek Islind and Frisco has shown
a material increase as a result of the
announcement of the Katy that high
er rates would be placed in cffect.

Short Lived Notoriety.
Marietta Wolff, once the cook in the
home of Mne. Steinhell, whose acquit-
tal on the charge of murder was, in a
great measure, due to Mrs. Wolff's tes-
timony. has found a new occupation.
She has become a professional bill
poster in Paris. On one of the recent
"notable people" postcards published
in that city she is shown as a smiling,
elderly, plump woman carrying a lad-
der. A cap Is set jauntily over one ear
and tbe poster bag hangs at one side,
held by a broad strap over the shoul-
der. The fact that she goes about her
buslnca unnoticed, says a Paris letter,
shows that people have forgotten an-
other celetrated case.
