core and chop the spplea together with
the pep|iers. from which the seeds

vinegar and put Into a kettle and sim-
mer for two hours. Add the sugar and
seasoning and cook slowly another
hour. Seal In glass Jars while hot. Thla
recipe makes about Ore pints.
Peach Chutney.—Take two and one-
half pounds of fresh peaches, one and
one-quarter pounds of evaporated
peaches, one-half pound of seeded
raising, two tablespoonfula of red chl)l
powder, one small onion, one-half cup-
ful of mustard seed, one-half pound of
green ginger, one snd one-quarter
pounds of brown sugar, one quart of
vinegar and one-third of a cupful of
salt. Soak the evaporated peaches
several hours In water to cover, then
cut into small pieces. Peel and cnt
the fresh pieces. Put the onion and
ginger root through the food choppy.
Boil the peaches In a pint of vinegar
for one-half irotrr:" *fake a sirup of
the sugar and a pint of vinegar and
cook all the ingredients In it for an
hour, stirring frequently nntll thick.
Seal while hot In preserve Jars. Thla
makes eleven cupfuls.
Pickled, Spiced Onions.—Peel small
onions and cover with hot water and
salt, making a strong brine. Let them
stand twenty-four hours, drain, cover
with another hot brine. Next day

onions into Jars with bits of mace, bay

yields tinder pressure from 37 to 88
per cent of oil and certain specimens
of fresh seed from the Sudan, which
contained less than 4 per cent of Wa-
ter, yielded more than 44 per cent
The oil Is odorless, of a light yellow
color and without disagreeable taste.
The seed la so small that It cannot
be bandied with ordinary equipment,
but the oil product Is so valuable that
new machinery will no doubt be built
