the oldest settlers of Greer county,

This morning a petition signed by

dash, and in this race there were four
entries. The purse was for $100, ano

relay race of one and one-half miles.

FIRE THIS MORNING
About 3 o'clock this morning a fire
jilnrm was turned in from the Glad-
stone Hotel. Fire was discoverd neai
the front end of the hotel, in the bed
rooms in the second story. The de-
partment made the run and extin
guish< d the blaze before any great
damage had been done.
It is estimated that the building
was damaged about $200, and it is ful-
ly covered by insurance, while the
contents of the building, furniture,
eac., were damaged about $150, with
no insurance
It is not known bow the blaze could
have originated at that time of the
morning.
