Just Cause for Pride.
The man admired his wife juat about
as iriutli as any man can admire a
wife, nevertheless when he saw that
she was devoting more and more time
each day to mirror gazing he deter-
mined to take her down a peg Hald
he, brutally:
"I wouldn't be so atuck on myself
If I were you. Just because people
happen to notice you when you go
out. It Isu f you they're admiring. Its
your clothes I heard a bunch of
women say so the other day."
For au liisfbnt the shock to tha
woman's vanity overpowered har. theu,
quickly recovering, she said:
in that case l am prouder than
ever. Nature la reapoualhle for me,
but I tlfKigucil the clothes my-
self"
And then the man shut up.
VALUE IN .WELL-TRAINED MIN9
H** fact Toe Frequently Lneppr*
eiated In Social and Oemee-
ti« Relations
Men ofteo reailM that a well trslaag
mind la a grea' aaser ,t pualneaa yet
seldom do we tee rxramant apoe rK^
fact tM' It Is also invaluable in ao-
clai and domeaflc relations The
mind, after a certain stage is passed,
works automatically In kindness m
in calculation
Tbls la notifiable m the atudy of
pronounced characters Men are en-
abled to ar-t quickly io emergency only
by intuition, and it follows that whea
a man is habitually kind, or merciful,
or considerate or all three, he wlH
be so in the crisis of his life
Character Is a matter of slow forma-
Hon In a pronounced form It is rare.
The average jK a mixture of many
lines of training; hence, vacillation.
The more pronounced, the more force-
ful for certain effects
It Is In babyhood that tbe formation
begins, and in the earlier years are
laid bases which after effort may
never be able to remove Envlroa-
merit, of course, is one fartor The
child brought up In an atmosphere of
kindness, courtesy, mercy, generosity,
••ti:, Is llkelv, alihough not certain, ta
remain ao
In any event, the main thought la
thai wo too frequently forget that
trained minds have possibilities be
youd money-making. The mind la
ever a tyrant The money-grubber
cannot reform after a certain period;
arid he who has reached 40 generoua
will find difficulty In .becoming a
miser, even If so minded, when paat
that period.

TEACHERS OPPOSE
POEICY NOW IN USE
Avard. Okla., Aug. 9,-Complain-
ing of the system in which county
huperintendents may exact an indorse-
ment fee when endorsing certificates,
the Teachers' Association of Woods
county at their meeting passed reso-
lutions bitterly opposing such a policy
and asking that certain other changes
be made in the present laws. The
a-sociation suggests the appointment
of a state commission to be composed
of five members; that this commis-
sion be invested with Tthe power to
subscribe the curriculm for the state.
The teachers also want a legislative
act making all first grade certifica es
with h minimum grade of 90 per
cenl valid at long as holder con-
tinues in the lyofession. They oppose
the nulification of certificates by tbe
addition of new branches to the re-
quirements of certificates.
Rigid Rulet for Childhood.
Childhood must have been a drearv
time when Lady Hurton was a little
