To California
Sensibly.
Two-thirds of the people who go to California
make the trip in a tourist sleeping car. It is the
sensible way to go—almost as comfortable as *a
"palace" car, and very much less expensive.
Rock Island tourist cars are operated over both
the "Scenic" and the "Southern" routes—daily
from Kansas City and Topeka via El Paso; twice
a week via Colorado Springs and Salt L,ake City.
Cars which leave Kansas City Tuesdajs, Wed-
nesdays and Fridays, as also both cars over the
"Scenic" line, are personally conducted. All of
them go through to California without change.

stood that all this was accomplish
ed without a fight. In truth the
warmest fight of the session was
held in the council, over the home-
stead exemption bill. When the
bill was out of the committee and
on its third reading, Senator Wink-
ler offered several amendments.
The point of order was raised that
amendments could not be offered
at this time. The president held
that amendments could be offered,
and on appeal the senators over-
ruled the president. The points
of order and motions to adjourn
rained fast and furious. The roll
call, however, was ordered and the
vote taken until Dr. Winkler was
reached. He then took the floor
to explain his vote, and asked un-
til Monday to file an explanation.
Then he started to make a speech,
was ruled out of order, and the
roll call finished. The vote was
10 to 3 and a motion fo reconsider
was quickly tabled, and then at
12:45 the curtsr'n was rung down
on that measure. Senator Camp-
bell was thick in the fight against
the bill, but his heretofore strong
allies. Senators Massingale and
Mathews, deserted him, and so he,
with Dr. Winkler, went down to
defeat.
