In the Sunday issue of the News we
had occasion to make a brief reference
to the business aituatiou and prayed
the people to have patience "until snu
rise."
The beams of the morning sun have
appeared in the business horizon at a
far earlier hour than we anticipated.
The indicatiohs from all over the conn*
try are that immediate prosperity is at
hand and that the financial stringency
of the situation has beeu completely
broken. Information comes to lis from
Chicago to the effect that from every
part of thecouutrv south an.l west mer-
chants are flocking in w ith an iueliua-
iion to buy on a liberal scale. Their
stocks have become greatly depleted
and they rush to Chicago as the nearest
point at which their orders can be tilled.
They began to talk like old times aud
attach a "hurry up" to every order
given. Merchauts from the wi st say
that the damage to crops in many sec
tiona, especially in Oklahoma, has been
greatly exaggerated aud that they look
forward to a good fall trade. Many
have delayed buyiug. because of the
unsettled condition of affairs, to the lat-
est possible moment, and now they say
tliey must have the goods, and quickly
too, to meet the demand that is already
opening up.
R. S. Corlett. of the great house of
('arson, Pine. Scott A Co.,* said to a
newspaper man Saturday:
"I have never seen such rapid im-
provement in business in general as
that of the last ten days. From a very
unsatisfactory condition it has already
increased to a volume that has never
beeu f exceeded in m.v remembrance
Buyers arc here from all over the coun-
try, from Oklahoma to Oregon, and ill
number that are greater than at any
time in the past that T can recall."
This vast aud sudden business expan-
sion can only be attributed to the fact
that the final work of Cleveland and
the congress of the I'niied States is
done. The prosperity which has struck
Chicago is rapidly traveling all over

HIS /'ATI-:.
Mr. Cleveland has made a remark
able place for himself in the financial
history of tho country, and during his
present term has made more political
enemies than any other mnn who has
ever had the fortune to sit in the presi-
dential chair. The bitterest enemies
he has made are within the confines of
his own party. And they are among
tho most powerful in the democratic
party. This unenviable position he
achieved through his unique attitude
on the silver question as well as from
his erratic stand on the tariff matter.
The fate of men who have taken the
stand that Cleveland has upon this
vitally important issue will be similar.

streets of Guthrie by the colored boot
blacks of the city.
Cotton bales are begining to show up
in Guthrie and their appearance gives
a commercial aspect to tho city that
is quite encouraging to ga'ze upon,
l.ast season the streets were crowded
with wagons loaded down with cotton.
This season, if reports are true, they
will be doubly crowded by the pro-
