Dear Sirs:—For almost fifteen
years I suffered from Indigestion,
and last winter thought I would
die, when my doctor, A. J. Lieur-
anceofthis place, advised me to
try Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin,
which I did, and two bottles cured
me. It not only relieved me, but
cured me so that I have not been
troubled since. If anyone should
offer me $500 for the good Syrup
Pepsin has dcAe me I would not
think of taking it. No one can
take your medicine without being
convinced of its more than wonder-
ful cures. I recommend it to all
my friends as a laxative and stom-
ach remedy. Yours with gratitude.

They Thumb-Mark Their Pioturas.
In order to protect themselves
from forgeries of their pictures, Mangum,
some British painters have taken a
leaf from the scientist, and in addi-
tion to their signature impress the
mark of their thumbs on the wet
oils or water colors in one corner
of the picture. The idea of identi-
fying people by the impression of
their fingertips was introduced by
Sir Francis Galton, and has been
practiced of late for the detection
of criminals.
H* Doesn't Care to Wander.
John Connaughton, prinicpal
keeper in Sing Sing prison, ha
not visited New York city for 29
years, and there is little likelihood
that he will ever do so. The rea-
son of this is that there are in that
city a great number of men u ho
would welcome an opportunity to
kill him. In his capacity as pris-
onkeeper for forty years Mr. Con-
naughton has earned the enmity of
many desperate criminals, most of
whom hate him with an intensity
which would induce them to mur-
der should the chance offer.
