Preniieiiuast will probably liye u«

"Cowslips die many times before
their death, the valiant never taste
death but once."
I . C. (li'ss has been disappointed
iu Larwell's appointment as postmaster
but he is a fair man and can wait his
time,. Too much republican, Guss.
We are glad .Mr. Hoffman was ap
pointed assistant prosecuting attorney
of Oklahoma. Hoffmau, though young
is ambitious and studious, and a.smooth
political worker. With all his faults
aud the indiscretions of the past bur
ied his opportunity now is a good one
and we wish him well.
The Populists of Texas have uomiu
ated Judge T. L. Nugent for Governor.
They propose not Only to make Nu-
gent Governor of Texas next fall, but
also make him President of the United
States in 1800. Hope springs eternal
in the Populist heart. We can sym
pathize with Mr. Nugent already.
N ew York policemen have been col
lectiug tribute from the saloons, dance
houses, steamship companies, merchant
hotels aud peanut stands. The invest-
igation has penetrated into the recesses
lar enough to uncover the final receiv
rs and distributers of tho booty. The
foragers are seen but the chiefs are
only Kuspected.
We are told that about eleven to fif-
teen persons who complained orally
abont a certain matter to members of
the school board, signed a petition
directly contrary to their oral complaint
•Such is the cowardly stuff people are
made of. Havo the courage to stand by
your convictions and don't be hypo
crites at any rate.
The lilly livered, whey-faced boy
claimed to be running an automatic
rival is only an automatic manikin run
by Dale and Company. The poor little
thing looks like a bleached baby fed on
Mellin's food or wind, with his face
powdered with a swan's down puff
which he carries in his pretty pocket.
Such is the white-fawn Knee-black,
the lignre head editor on other men's
stuff.
Several of the populist picnics on
July 4th will be run as benefits to pop-
ulist newspapers. After paying the
actual expenses, the profits will be di
vided among the populist newspapers
of the neighborhood to pay them for
the campaign work thev will hnve to do
—[Ex.
Of course every little helps but a pic-
nic to last from now till the time when a
populist will be elected President of the
I nited States would not furnish
enough profits to help them out in this
fall campaign.
