FARMERS' INSTITUTE.
The Farmers' Institute of Lincoln
county met in Chandler Monday. Pres-
ident H. I. Stevens, of Meeker, presid-
ing. The attendance was not large,
only about fifty farmers being present.
J. B. Thoborn, territorial secretary
of agriculture was introduced and spoke
of the "Benefits of Farmers' Insti-
tutes." He brought the mattor right
down to a practical basis and suggested
that the iustitute raise a fund and offer
premiums to farmer boys for the best
yields from a given area, thus educat-
ing the t>oy as he grows up to not only
learn the best method of producing
crops, but also the benefits of the or-
ganization. His remarks on the value
of organization in general were most
convincing.
"Orchard Culture," by Prof. Morris,
of the agricultural college at Stillwater
made the leading talk of the session.
Frof. Morris treat this subject fully in
a series of ten lectures of one hour
each. In so brief a talk he could touch
only a few of the many divisions of
the subject and he confined himself to
cultivation of the orchard, showing
conclusively the imperative need of
constant and thorough cultivation of
growing trees. The information con-
