As Chairman of the County
Council of Defense, I am advis-
ed by Mr, John A. Whitehurst,
Chalrmsn of the State Council of
Defer**, that the people of this
[Istate will not be able to get any
mora coal for the next sixty or
ninaty days unless the coal strike
laaattledin a short time. All
avaifeble coal will have to be
used by the railroada in order to
the roads in operation
is absolutely necessary, as
. Jlrosds will have to be run
in oj-der to asupply the people
with the necessaries of life and
to mfve our large crops of cot-
| ton, fain, etc. If the railroads
stop \ running, the condition of
our country will be far worse
than y/e have any adequate con>
seption of and citizens are warn-
ed nqt to expect to get any coal
from' cars containing the same,
asthe authorities in change cf the
coal Supply of the country are
doing all they can to furnish the
people with coal whenever it is
possible to do so. Mr. White-
hurst advised us that all people
who are out of coal supplv them-
selves at once with coal oil stovra
or coal oil burners, assuring roe
that there will be a plentiful sup-
ply of coal oil for domestic use.
potiH delay in getting your coal
oil stove or burner which can be
obtained from your hardware
dealer and in many intancea, you
cm find coal oil stoves at the
oil stations of the large oil com-
panies in Altus, snd other towns
in the county. Neighbors who
have a supply of coal are advia-
eo to help their neighbors who
are out of c al snd who have not
any coal oil stove for immediate
use. It is hoped that every citi-
zen of Jackson county will work
patriotically to meet the situs-
tion in a manner becoming the
.condition which face us. In or
der to do thin, we must cast
aside selfishness and labor to
gether for the best interest of all
the people. J. M. Williams,
Chm. Co. Council Defense.

SUGGESTIONS
For you to think about in
selecting your new car
First, Economy of Operation
Under this head would come fuel consumption, repairs,
tire mileage and durability. It isn't always the first cost of
the car you buy that should be the main consideration, but
the general upkeep of your car from month to month. In
fact, economy of operation shouid be given more considera-
tion than the first cost.
Second, Continuity of Service
from the dealer and manufacturer
You wrnt to know from the man from whom you buy a
car, First, that he is going to remain in business and keep on
hand for your service and convenience not only a stock of
parts aed accessories for yourvcar, but that he will also main-
tain a service station with mechanics trained especially to
keep your car in good running condition. And you want to
investigate as to whether vou are buying a manufactured or
an assembled car. in order .that you may know whether you
may expect to get the necessary parts for your car when you
need them.
Third, Rate of depreciation
on first cost price
Don't buy an offbrand car that does not have a used car
value when you want to dispose of it. This is a mistake
that has been made many times in this country. When you
buy a t^am of mules you buy a good young team, so that
when they have served their purpose, you can dispose of
them without much loss. You should think of your car
when you buy it in the same way.
We handle Dodge and Chandler cars. The cost of oper-
ation on both is unusually low. We maintain a stock of
parts and accessories for them and competent mechanics for
your service. The first cost depreciation is less than others.

There is just one way of being sure that you'll get
dependable shoes for your money and that is, purch-
ase only standard makes where the manufacture will
stand back of his merchant customers. We buy our
shoes from reputable, legtimate makers who will
back us up if the workmanship or the mate rials they
put in their shoes proves to be not up to their stand-
ard. For style, quality and value our brands are
without an equal. You can be positive that these
styles are the best and that our prices are as fair as
those of any legitimate merchant anywhere, and we
positively know that our prices ate much lower than
those of some merchants. These shoes were all con-
tracted for last summer before the last heavy ad-
vance. Our selling price is but a triffle above the-
replacement price to-day.
