Would one hundred .thousand
dollars cover tbe lose to Al'us
the past year beeavM of the
ebortage of water?
Had a gala baan blowing, like
many wa have bad lately, when
tbe Williame' bungalow, on North
Main, caught fire Tuesday even-
ing. the heart of Altus would
have been made sick at the des-
truction of property.
Some think the council is mak-
ing a mistake in contracting with
a well company, in the some of
$23,000. to bring a million gal-
lone of water to the surface each
24 hours. We think that it is a
good trade, and if the water ia
bropght to the surface, tne peo-
ple will never rest until it ia pip-
ed into the city, and all will pro-
claim "Amen."
While we have thought the City
Council baa been derelict in
their duty, in not toying to se-
cure water foih the city during
the long dry spell, we believe
they are now on the right track
to aecure water, and we shall do
all in our power to assist them-
There should be no selfishness
in this time of absolute shortage
of water.

We hear some people say that
Altus has never received any
benefit from the money raised
by bond issues and put into pub-
lic utilities If you ask them
how they know this, they will
say: "They say so." Yes some
jackass brays that kind of stuff,
and then these fellows stupidly
repeat the braying of those jack-
asses, when they ought to know
that "They s^y so" are con-
temptible liars.
