There is a big quarrel among Re-
publicans as to the best way to avoid
doing their duty.
If there was a luxury tax on lan-
guage Republican attacks on the
League of Nations might be somewhat
profiatable.
" Probably that Republican effort to
adjourn the House of Representatives
for five weeks was intended-as a
"strategic retreat.' '
Republicans wanted to take a recess
because it was too warm in Washing-
ton. But the people will make it still
hotter for the G. 0. P. if its repre-
sentatives in Congress don't get hus.v-
Republican "investigations" are re-
vealing some startling differences be-
tween the conduct of the Spanish-Am-
erican wrar on a ration of "embalmed
beef and the winning of the world's
greatest conflict on wholesome food.
President Wilson's League of Na-
tions fails to please some score of Re-
publican Senators. But it may be ask-
ed whether Mr. Lodge's league would
su;t. Mr. Nelson, or whether anybody's
c1 agile would satisfy Mr. Borah?
In New York, because stockings are
so high—in price, some of the women
ure going without. In u musical com-
edy at Oklahoma City recently the
[ rii'h- came on the stage also without
I either stocking or the customary
'' lights". Now if the price of dress
j jroods cont.nue to rise and women in-
I crease in their stubborness what on
J earth will the exposure amount to?
A SAFE TEST
There are several prominent men
apparently eager to get in the raci
against Senator Gore. They considei
it an easy snap to beat him. Among
those prominently mentioned is Gov-
ernor Robertson, Attorney General
F reeling and Representative Scotl
Ferris. It seems to us that Scott Fer-
ris is the logical man. He is well qual
ified. He has had experience in nation
al affairs. He has a powerful influenc<
in congress. He accomplishes things Oj
national importance. He is closely id-
entified and personally familiar witl
conditions in western Oklahoma.Thesi
are merits, most of which can not bt
claimed by other aspirants and the*
are of vital importance.—Gotebo Gaz-
ete.
When Republicans begin to quarrel
anion gthemselves we can expect to
hear the truth even if we can't hope
to have constructive legislation.
Republican leaders of Congress
have pretended that they were prepar-
ing a program of legislation upon do-
mcsitc issues. There is now a f:ne op-
portunity to act The President and
the people have outlined a program.

i For those who are in need of a rem-
j edy for kidney troubles and backache,
is is a good plan to try Doan s Kidney
Pills. They are strongly recommend-
ed by Mangum people.
H. C. Sanders, 225 E. Jefferson St.,
Mangum, says: "I strained my back
while lifting a bale of cotton which
caused me to suffer from severe pains
in the small of my back. At times, my ]
kidneys acted entirely too free, then
again for days at a time the seere-
tions didn't pass at all, casing m;
much distress. I learned of Doan's
Kidney Pills and began taking them.
The first box proved very beneficirl
and I continued taking them until !
,ad u .vi1 three boxes. The 'Jams ie i

mally. 1 have taken Doan s Kidney
since whenever I have felt any
attacks coming on and I know
ire a reliable medicine."

Conductor Hansen of the Rock Is-
land made us a pleasant call Wednes-
day evening and gave us some point:
on the railroad man's side of Govern-
ment ownership of railroads. Accord-
ing to Mr. Hansen the railroad men
have no desire to foist their plans up-
on the people, but will carry a thor-
ough campaign on to show us some of
the advantages of Government owner-
| ship, with its more efficiency and ec-
| onomics over the extravagant Private
! Ownership ways. The Plumb plan
would have the government purchase
the roads at a cost which will not in-
clude the values by watered stocks.
The pl;*i is at least worthy of careful
study.
Lawton Congressman Finally An-
nounce* To Succeed Gore.
Oklahoma City. Following the defi-
nite announcen.ent of attorney-general
Fieellng, Scott Ferris, long expected
rival of Gore for the U. S. senate final-
ly announced last week. He has
opened headquarters here but like Mr.
Freeling will make no active cam-
paign for anme months. Tills is con-
sidered to close the field. Senator
Coif presumably will make the race
a*ain and E. G. McAdams, a local at-
torney says he is a candidate.
Announcement by Ferris of his can-
didacy brought tnto the political lime-
light nearly a dozen democrats as con-
tenders for his place as Sixth district
congressman.
p. P. Duffy, mayor of El Reno, Frank
Beauman -if Waurika and District
Judge Cham Jones also of Waurika,
have definitely entered the race with
formal announcements while R. H.
Wilson, staate superintendent. Judge
Frank Bailey of Chiekaaha, Tom L.
Wade of Marlow, democratic national
committeeman. State Senator J. El-
j mer Thomas of Lawton. George L.
Bowman of Kingfisher and Dan Perry
of Carnegie were regarded by politi-
cians here as logical candidates for
the place, and announcements from
among these is expected at any time.

It's making about twenty-five million |
feet a flay. Think of it! Gas enough to '
supply a small city—and immeasur-

neighbor.
You know the Giant now. We've told
you the wonderful story—how we
started as the wildest kind of a wild-
cat—a straight out gamble. And nqw
the field developments are making our
properties so rich that we are ceasing
to have a gambling proposition and it
is becoming an investment.
But we stick to our original propo-
sition. We keep the limit on. You can
not buy more than $100 worth of this
stock.
We will sell as little as $1 worth.
Do you think we stand a fair chance
to get a big well ? We think we do.
If we do a few shares will be worth
a fortune.
Buy it now. It's ten cents a share

twenty-two separate tracts of Osage
oil lands, comprising a total of 35,310
acres, will be offered for lease for oil

probably run into several millions.
Oil leases will be made for a period
of five years and as long thereafter as
oil is found in paying quantities, but
