Secretary Issue* Instructions Barring
Them From Information
MU8KOGEE: The Indian ageut
has received instructions from the
secretary of the interior to disbar
from practice before any of the de-
partments of the interior in Indian
Territory all lawyers who have not
paid the tribal tax, and refuse them
information of any character. This
comes as a result of the fight the at-
torneys have made against the pay-
ment of the tax, they claiming that
one-quarter of a year's tax is all that
can be collected. There are five
hundred lawyers in the Creek nation.
Of these but twelve have paid the
tax. After the order came the In-
dian agent instructed his clerks to
give no more information of any kind
to &uy lawyer who has not paid his
tribal tax. One of the biggest law
firms here was served with a notice
to the effect that the channels of in-
formation at the Indian agent's of-
fice had been closed against its mem-
bers. The order also applies to the
t)awes commission, and no attorney
will receive consideration there un-
less he can show his tribal tax re-
ceipt. The tax is $25 per year for
lawyers, and all who have been here
for - three years owe from that date.
The agent refuses to issue a tax re-
ceipt except for payment in full. The
lawyers will pay up. This order de-
barring the attorneys is the moot ef-
fective stroke the secretary of the in-
terior has yet made to enforce collec-
tion of this tax.

CHOCTAW NATION NEXT
Tribal Tax Collection to be Forced
There Also
SOUTH MCALESTER: Coneider-
nt>tp PToitemont has hpen caused hero
by the announcement that Mr. Low-
ery, the tribal tax collector, has been
ordered to resume the collection of
tribal taxes in the Choctaw nation,
and that he will be in South McAles-
ter at an early day. Coupled with
this was the official announcement of
the decision of the eighth circuit
court of appeals in 4he South McAl-
ester tribal tax case, in which the
lower court was sustained, the ruling
being that the tax is collectable. Ap-
peal will at once be taken to the su-
preme court of the United States.
This leaves the Choctaw nation in
Identically tho same position as the
Creek nation, where resistance was
recently made to the collection of
the tribal tax. The disposition of the
business men here is to avoid a clash
with the United States authorities,
and it Is probable that a settlement
will be made with the Indians.

Of Wide Interest.
Breed, Wis., June 26.—Special—
Chas. Y. Peterson. Justice of the Peace
for Oconto Co., has delivered a judg-
ment that is of Interest to the whole
United States. Put briefly, thai judg-
ment is, "Dodd's Kidney Pills are the
best Kidney medicine on the market
today."
And Mr. Peterson gives his reason
for this judgment. He says: "Last
winter I had an aching pain in my
back which troubled me very much.
In the morning 1 could hardly straight-
en my back. I did not know what it
was but an advertisement led me to
try Dodd's Kidney Pills. After taking
one box I can only say they have done
more for me than expected as I feel as
well now as ever I did before."
Pain in the back is one of the first
symptoms of Kidney disease, if not
cured by Dodd's Kidney Pills it may
develop into Bright's Disease, Dia-
betes, Rheumatism or some of the
other deadly forms of Kidney Disease.

Wasn't Worth Any More
The late Eben b. Jordan, founder
of the Jordan-Marsh company, used
to tell this story on himself:
It seems he once had in his em-

l.ls mind to get along in the world.
One morning, as Mr. Jordan was sit-
ting at his desk, this boy respectfully
approached him, and asked to have
nis pay to $5 a week.
"How much are you getting now?"
Mr. Jordan asked with a smile.
"Three dollars a week, sir."
"And how old are you?'*
"Fifteen my next birthday, sir."
Mr. Jordan laid his nand kindly on
the little fellow's Moulder, and said,
impressively: "Do you know, my
boy, when I was your age I was only
getting $2 a week?'
The boy dropped his eyes for a
moment. Then he looked earnestly
