All day long the railroads poured a
stream of people into the Hooiior
capital, and somewhere in the neigh
borhood of 30,000 people must have
been turned loose into the streets of
Indianapolis. Hardy farmers with
their wives and ebildre" and other
relatives formed a large proportion
of the arrivals. The encampment
is within easy distunce, aud to heej
away from it would be worse than
treason. And so they are here
tents ol thousands.
As the veterans arrive, outside of
tho slate posts are not by any means
up to the expectations. A good
many slates send less than half the
total that hail been scheduled a

while a few are likely to make oven
a poorer showing, llard times and
the stringency of the mousy market,

citizens presented to Col. Harrison
and his newly organized seventieth
rvgimont of volunteers the standard
of Indiana and the United States to
cany before them to the war, the
ex-president this afternoon dedicated
Camp Wilder, the name bestowed
upon some 300 tents in which re
uuions of regiments aud old soldiers
societies will be in full blast for the
remainder of the week. About 3000
people participated in the exercises,
which included addresses by W. A.
Ketcham, Ciei:. G. T. XV ifder, for
whom the camp is named, and Gen.
Harrison ; patriotic music by the
baud and the raising of tho stars and
stripes to the top of a toweriug polo.
When the ex-president was iutro
ducetl he was greeted with a volley
of cheers that was thrice repeated.
Hi apologized to his fellow citizens
for having remained so long at the
