Pure Bred
Sale Was
Big Event
That the Texas County Breeders As-
sociation more than made good with
their purebred livestock sale last Fri-
day and Saturday—in fact that they
made it the greatest event of its kind
that has ever transpired in the South
west—is the widespread verdict that
is being heralded all over this section
of the country. More than two hun
tired head of purebred cattle and hogs
were sold to the farmers of the Pan-
handle country, and the planting of
these fine animals in this territory
means a revolution of conditions and
greater prosperity for the fanners.
The Short Horn cattle seemed to be
the favorite breed, bringing an aver-
age og $261.00 per head. A large per-
centage of these animals came from
the herds of J. E. Bouse and Chas. Mc-
Kee, on their splendid farms near La-
verne, Harper County, Oklahoma. The
Holstein cattle ranked next in price
per head bringing an average of $103
each. M. A. Shuler, of Beaver county,
and a number of Texas county breed-
ers were the consigners of the hogs,
consisting of the Poland China, I. O.
C., and Duroc breeds. The Shuler of-
ferings brought an average of $96 per
head.
On last Saturday night the business
men of Guymon tendered a banquet to
the consingers and auctioneers of the
sale that proved to be one of the most
enjoyable and entertaining events ever
held in the town. It was a love feast,
replete with expressions of apprecia-
tion and satisfaction over the outcome
of the sale, interspersed with wit,
oratory and valuable information, and
will be remembered By everyone who
attended m one of the really great
•rvats of their lives. President Mat-
(hewaon of the Guymon Good Roads
Club was the toastm ster, and toasts
were given by Messrs. Bouse, McKee,
Shuler, Slocum, Gardner and Childers
on the p*rt of the consigners; Colonels
Rureeae, Rteffens,. Hariff and Wil-
meth for the auctioneers, and Messrs.
r le, Lightner, Meade, Rliley, Shields,
~Hiaey, and other* on the part of the
Guymon citiiens. One of the features
of the evening was the deserved trl-
bntea and recognition given to our
splendid County A rent, J. B. H>sey,
who has been the inspiration for so
many good movea for the develop-
ment of our county, and for President
W Shields. Vice- President Rimer
Hier and Secretary Joe Meade, of the
Texas County Breeders' Association,
who worked and traveled day and
night to make the sale the great auc-
r ess it was. All of these men, from
thoughful, judicious Hisey and Shields
to that splendidly posted whirlwind
Jo* Meade, learned that the efforts
they hnd made were really appreciated
by the men who had watched their af-
forta.
There ia much that might be written
about the sale that space will not per-
mit, and we have figured it out that
the farmer* of Texas County would
