laibllv assembly in Ouymon, lu com-
pany Willi the ltight Hon. Dr. Stinnett
(dc.:.net! later to be one of theuhfaf
moguls in the aforesaid convention),
we, after diligent search, located the
meeting In the private parlors of the
Hon. Judge Heed's 8*10 tent. There
found an august assembly of Ave
souls—not counting ourselves—with
the Judge, as usual, doing all the
talking, trying to impress his hearers
of his own greatness in the exploits
and wonderful successes In his owu
long and checkered career.
Mr. Neeley ventured to Inquire when
he (the Judge) expected the rest of the
crowd. And wo were Informed that
Mr Pontius (not the Pontius Pilate
who murdered his Christ, but Pontius
who stand| awaiting the action of the
grand jury charged with murdering a
cow) would soon he hare with a Urge
crowd from the south sidu of the county.
In a few moiuunts he came, accom-
panied hy bis "second" only. Juat
about that time, Mr. Editor, I noticed
tho atmosphere getting quite chilly—
so far as your corrripondent was
concerned -und realizing that if I
went then my departure would likely
be less sudden than If 1 delayed. The
Dr. got up and led the way, accom-
panying me half wuy to town, aad
then returned at the signal from his
superior, to feast, no doubt, upon the
further oratory of thu "Judge" (?)
selling forth the awful calamities that
were about - lo come upon us aa new
settlers trorn our avowed enemies—
tho old settlers Telling them, no
doubt, of their own downtrodden
condition, of the rights they bad lost,
and the iudignitlos they had suffered,
uud that the healing balm for all their
ills was to organize, and If possible,
all who were present get office at the
hands of his fellows lu like perilous
circumstances. And then with that
eminent warrior, sage and statesman,
"Majah" Wellborn, at the rudder,
steer onward and upward to
glorious realization of our (The
Leader's) long lost hopes. Lost In
our native country, lost in our next
adopted country, lost in uur own
party here. Yea! should tt be that we
shall lose in tills great movement we
would fly uulo themouDlaiuof dispair
und bury ourselves in political
oblivion forever and ever!
Bui if we get the offices which are
our (The Leader's) prime object and
desire, we will hoist the hostile Dag In
the cuuip of our' enemies, we will
anihiiate tliem, we will declare war
through uur commander-in-chief,
"The Majali," and never telent until
thu enemy is abolished aa a factor in
this county of "ours." What do we
care what the results will be if we
drive the capital and consumers of
our products away just ao we gel the
offices.
NOW A LITTLE 8EN8E.
Real oppression is an abominable
tiling. Hut imaginary oppreaaion is
the most damning curse of our nation
today. "Luve thy neighbor aa thy-

la it he who, having whan hungry been

when aick given care, that after all
this turns and alabs you In the back
