sity of Michigan, lost his sight 18
years ago through an accident In
spite of hia a;T.iction he has taken a
high place In education and has made
original researches of much value, es-
pecially in the chemistry of iron aad
cement.
Shower of Sulphur.
Charolie- a small town 30 mtles from
Macon. In France, has recently been
visited by a shower of sulphur. The
roofs, gardens, fields, vineyards, rivers
and ponds were covered with a yellow
dupt and for some time the peasants
in the fields were troubled by a sul-
phurous biting odor which made
