special meeting- this week. We have
mailed to Dr. A. B. Leeds Sixteen ap-
plications which were taken in as a
birthday class. We would like to
know if this special dispensation con-
tinues through the month of Novem-
ber?
You evidently do not think we are
so slow, as we secured Sixteen new
members, and if all the lodges in the
State secured that many, we think
there is no room for a kick.
Yours in C. H. ft P.,

can wake up some of the members and
get them out and get them to work.
We have several applications on the
string, which we will try to land. Tin
ladies are to furnish us with a little
program next Friday night and some-
thing to eat, so come up if you can.

SPECIAL MEETING AND BIG DO-
INGS AT CHICKASHA.
Chickasha, Okla., Oct. 31. 1913.
Mr. W. R. Welch,
Guthrie, Okla.
Denj- Sir and Brother:
Chickasha Lodge No. 52 called a
special meeting for Monday night. Oc-
tober 27th. to celebrate the 45th anni-
versary of the A. O. U. W. at which
time we initiated Five new members.
We had about Fifty members pres-
ent who witnessed the initiation.
Recitations and pood talks were
plentiful and after the Lodge meeting
a supper was served by the Refresh-
ment Committee and we claim to be
one of the most up-to-date and wide
awake lodges in Oklahoma.
A conversation between myself and
a member that never attended lodge
meetings: I said, my good brother do
you remember the obligation you
took at the altar, that you would at-
tend our meetings and labor to in-
crease our membership? To all this
you pledged your sacred honor as a
Workman., What have you done to
increase your membership? And what
are you going to do? The question
was asked in Purcell Lodge No. 38,
how to increase our membership. The
question was answered by brother
Sam Muller, as follows: "Tf we will
make it compulsory in our Ry-laws
for each and every member to gather
around the altar every meeting night
and take the obligations that we first
took, we will not forget our responsi-
bility so soon. Every lodge can have
new members if the members will
Oklahoma and have a R., F. D. from
Hackett which Is our post office.
Hoping that every lodge will take ad-
vantage of the free dispensation, 1
am,
Yours fraternally in C. H. & p.

CELEBRATION AT SULPHUR
No. 102.
Sulphur, Okla.. Nov. 2, 1913.
Dear Rrother Welch:
As our Recorder is out of the city
at this time T hand you herewith a
clipping from the Sulphur Democrat,
which is evidenece in itself that we
are always on the job. Although our
lodge is young T think you will agree
with me that we are one of the most
enthusiastic new lodges in our juris-
diction.
The A. O. U. W. lodge of this city
celebrated the forty-fifth anniversary
,-f its organization Monday evening in
its lodge room in the old Security
-vank building.
After the transaction of business
the members led by their grand mas-
ter Workman, R. B. Horsman, with
about twenty incited guest?, set down
to a banquet of delicious viands con-
sisting of sandwiches, coffee, cake,
fried chicken, pickles, olives and oth-
er things too numerous to mention.
Mr. Horsman was scheduled for a
speech bu+ unfortunately the lodge
consented to his partaking first of the
svpper and found to their disappoint-
ment that calling on him after that
pleasant event he was entirely too full
for utterance and thereby missed an
interesting half hour. The occasion
was enlivened by music furnished by
.Tohn Coffey's orchestra and the mem-
bers of that organization have the
thanks of the entire membership of
the A. O. IT. W. lodge for their kind-
ness in so favoring them.
The lodge though only organized in
February has now a membership of
forty-five and has good reasons to he
proud of its growth and the unusual
interest shown by both officers anil
members.
BROTHER O. J. BORT'M TALKS AT
PRYOR.
Pryor, Okla., Oct. 31, 1913.
Mr. W, R. Welch,
Guthrie, Okla.
Dear Sir and Brother:
Yours of the 28th at hand and in
reply will say that on last Monday
night we took up the matter of how
would be the best way to get new
members interested, and in our offorl
to do this wc voted to cut off the in-
itiation fee and asked the Grand Mas-
ter Workman to continue the free dis
pensation through November, and I
believe we can add quite a class, by
making it as cheap as possible for
their initiation, and all seem to real-
ize the superiority of the claims of
the A. O. U. W.
1 can not fail to mention the fact
that brother O. J. Rorum of our lodgi'
was with us last meeting night and
ga-e one of the l.<st talks we have
had the pleasure eof listening to in
years, and I wish you could have been
here to have heard him. Let the good
work go on.
The boys all expressed themselves
as being delighted and went away
from the lodge looking at things in a
different light to what they ever had.
May we have the pleasure of many
more visits from Rrother Rorum.
Fraternally,

Hackett, Ark., Nov. 10, 191::.
Mr. W. R. Welch,
Guthrie, Okla.,
Dear Sir and Rrother:
Tn reply to your letter of October
28th, will say that we are coming to
the front at last.
We initiated Ten new members on
the 8th and will have another class for
our next meeting. After initiation
was completed, supper was served and
everybody had a good time. We are
going to work with a will and make
our part of the state wake up. Sonn
may think it strange that we write
from Hackett, Ark., but you see we
live on the lino btween Arkansas and
and which makes my entire family
members of the Order, and which this
fact in itself shows my hearty in-
dorsement and T cheerfully recom-
mend the A. O. IT. W to any person
seeking protection. We are going to
have a big time the 2nd Thursday
night in this month, as we intend to
initiate Ten or more and contemplate
having a big supper. We would be
glad to have some of the Grand Lodge
Officers visit us on this night and
will promise you a good time.

MEDFORD STTLL PROGRESSING
Medford, Okla., Nov. 1, 1913.
Dear Rrother Welch:
Medford Lodge No. 31 is making
a little progress during the free dis-
pensation, but not what we would like
to do..
The old A. O. U. W. Is too good
an order to stay out of and we
should endeavor to enlighten our un-
fortunate Rrothers and Sisters that
are not in our order, by presenting
the A. O. IT. W. on its merits and
show them what they are loosing by
slaying out in the cold.
Several of our members are non-
residents. that also handicaps our ef-
forts to rebuild, by reducing our home
membership.
Wishing the Grand old A. O. IT. W.
the best,
Fraternally yours In C. H. ft P.

CAPTTAT-
Dear Brother Welch:
Tn reply to your letter of Inquiry of
October 28th. will say that we have
a number of applications pending in
this Lodge, but on the regular meet
intr night following October 27th. be-
ing the only night In which we could
secure the use of the hall, a terrible
storm of rain and wind made it im-
nnssible to secure a quorum to act
en the applications.
We find that the new nlan Is work-
Ino- well and you will get a ■good re-
port from this Lodge during Novem-
ber. as we understand that the snec-
lal dispensation for free beneficiarv
certificates Is in force until Decern

SOMETHING DOING AT
HEAVENER.
Heavener, Okla., Nov. 1, 1913.
Dear Brother Welch:
Yours of the 28th to lodge Record-
er was handed me to answer and in
reply will tell you what we are doing
at Heavener.,
we are not doing nothing, but we
are doing something, as I have mailed
to Dr. A. B. Leeds six medical exami-
nations in the past ten days and am
mailing four more today, promising
Dr. Leeds that, more will follow In the
near future. The time for writing in-
surance has now come and if we do
not get new members it's our fault.
We initiated three members the
night of October 27th, one of them
being my only child, a boy of sixteen
years and he now has a $2,000 certif-
icate in the Grand Old A. O. U. W.
so EASY WHEN TT TS EXPLAINED
\ woman riding In a Philadelphia
trolley-car said to the conductor-
"Can yon tell me, please, on what
trolley-ctrs T can use these exchange
slips? They mix me up somewhat."
"They really shouldn't madam,"
said the polite conductor. "It. is vein-
simple: Fast of the junction by a
west bound car an exchange from an
east bound car is good only If the
west bound car Is west of the junc-
tion formed by said east bound car.
South of the junction formed by a
north bound car an exchange from a
south bound car Is good south of the
junction if the north hound car was
north of the Junction at the time of
issue, but only south of the junction
going south if the south bound car
was going north at the time it was
south of the Junction. That is all
there Is to tt."
