Every housekeeper should know
that if they will buy Defiance Cold
Water Starch for laundry use they
will save not only time, because it
never sticks to the iron, but because
each package contains 16 oz.—ono full
pound—while all other Cold Water
Starches are put up In %-pound pack-
ages, and the price is the same, 10
cents. Then again because Defiance
Starch la free from all injurious chem-
icals. If your grocer tries to sell you
a 12-oz. package it is because he jas
a stock on hand which be wishes to
dispose of before he puts in Defiance.
He knows that Defiance Starch has
printed on every package In large let-
ters and figures "16 ozs." Demand De-
fiance and savo much time and money
and the annoyance of the ironl"stick-
ing. Defiance never sticks.

DOLL COULD NOT SLEEP.
Erstwhile pet Barred from "Nature's
8weet Restorer."
Small Nancy, aged four, had a doll
to which sho wan devotedly attached
It could open and shut its eyes, and
every night Nancy took it to bed with
her, carefully closing its eyits before
tho light was turnod out One day the
doll, as dolls trom time Imme-
morial have been known to do, met
with an accident which placed the
eye-shutting mechanism out of busi-
ness and left it with not only widely
and permanently opened optics, but
badly damaged ones as well. At in-
tervals during tlio remainder of the
day Nanoy pleaded to have her dolly
"cured," but nothing was successful.
At bedtime when alio bad donnod her
nightdress and started for her little
bed her mother saw she had forgotten
her adored doll and reminded Ijer of
it, saying::
"But, Nannie, you've forgotten your
baby; sho won't bo able to sleep un
less you take her to bod with you as
usual."
To her mother's amused astonish
raent Nancy threw a half-contcmptu
ous look over her shoulder at the doll,
recumbent on a chair, and said;
"Oh, what's tho use! She can't
sleep anyway; who ever heard of any
body sleeping with their eyes wide
open ?"

Glover, Vice Pres. Milwaukee,
Wis., Business Woman's Association, is
another one of the million women who
have been restored to health by using
Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound
" Dkab Mks. Pisrham : I was married for several years and no children
blessed my heme. The doctor said I had a complication of female troubles
•nd I coold not have any children unless I could be cured. He tried to cure
me, bnt after experimenting for several months, my husband became dis-
gusted, and one night when we noticed a testimonial of a woman who had
been cured of similar trouble through the use of Lydia E. Piukham's
Vegetable Compound, he went out and bought a bottle for me. I U6ed
your medicine for three and one half months, improving steadily in health,
*nd in twenty-two months a child came. I cannot fully express the joy and
thankfulness that is in my heart. Our home is a different place now, as we
have something to live for, and all the credit is due to Lydia E. Pinkham'ft
Vegetable Compound. Yours very sincerely, Mas. L. C. Glover, 614 Grove
St., Milwaukee, Wis." Vice President, Milwaukee Business Woman's Ass'n.
Women should not fall to profit by the experience of these two
women ; just as surely as they were cured of the troubles enume-
rated in their letters, just so certainly will Lydia E. Pinkbam's
vegetable Compound cure others who suffer from womb troubles,
Inflammation of the orarios, kidney troubles, nervous excitability,
and nervous prostration; remember that'it is Lydia E. Pink-
ham's Vegetable Compound that is curing women, and don't allow
Mnj druggist to sell you anything else in its place.
An Indiana Lady Tells of a Wosderful Cure: —
" Dear Mbs. Pinkham : It is a pleasure
for me to write and tell what your wonderful
medicine has done for me. I was sick for
three years with change of life, and my
physician thought a cancerous condition of
the womb. During these three years 1
suffered untold agony.
"I cannot find words in which to ex-
press my bad feelings. I did not expect to
ever see another well day. I read some of the
testimonials recomending your medicine and
decided to write to you and give your treat-
ment a triaL
" Before T had taken half a bottle of
Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Com-
pound, I began to sleep. 1 have taken now
tix bottles and am so well I can do all kinds
of work."—Mas. Lizzie Hixklk, Salem, Ind.
If there is anything in your case about which you would like
special advice, write freely to Mrs. Pink ham. She can surely help
you, for no person in America can speak from a wider experience
In treating' iemale ills. Address is Lynn, Mass.; her advice is free

KEEP FAITH WITH CHILDREN.
Matter In Wh^ch Mothers Sometimes
Show Carelessness.
Many u woman who would not
think of lightly breaking a promise
made to a grown up person Is utterly
careless about keeping her word with
her children. Sho promised whatover
la convenient at tho moment, and
apparently thinks that the breaking
or keeping of thoao promises Is a mat-
ter In which sho can please herself,
and that her children have no right
to consider thomselrea aggrieved if
sho doea not do bo.
A mother who acta thus does her
child grievous harm. Sho forgets that
the sense of justice Is strong In quite
a little child, ami that It !h natural
and reasonable that ho should expect
his parents to l>e as g«>od as their
word aud to fulfill their promises
even at tho cost of convenience.
Promises should not bo lightly brok
en. and tho parent who Is KUllty of
this soon loses his children's confi-
dence, which Is one of the sweetest
things which our Uttlo ones can give
us.
When boys and girls learn to doubt
their parents' < ruthfulness, aaya
Woman's Life, they soon look around
for someone whom they can trust,
and on that person they shower I heir
affection and bestow their confi-
dence.
Most men havo as much faith in
airships as they have In air castles.
The meek may Inherit tho earth,
but tho other fellows will doubtless

A Sermon on Happiness.
Happiness Is here today and gone
tomorrow, and mighty few folks get
enough out of it while It's loafing
'round to last 'em a day after It gets
out of sight.—Atlanta Constitution.
Especially for Women.
Champion, Mich., Jan. 9th.—(Spe-
cial)—A case of especial interest to
women is that of Mrs. A. Wellatt,
wifo of a well known photographer
he e. It Is best given in her own
words.
"I could not sleep, my feet were
cold and my limbs cramped," Mrs.
Wellat states. "I had an awful hard
pain across my kidneys. I hod to get
up three or four times in the night. I
was very nervous and fearfully des-
pondent.
"I had been troubled in this way
for five years when l commenced to
use Dodd's Kidney Pills, and what
they caused to come from my kidneys
will hardly stand description.
"By the time 1 had finished one box
of Dodd's Kidney Pills I was cured.
Now I can sleep well, my limbs do
not cramp, I do not get up In the
night and I feel better than I have in
years. I owe my health to Dodd's
Kidney Pills."
Women's ills are caused by Dis-
eased Kidneys; that's why Dodd's
Kidney Pills always cure them.

Catarrh is a systemic disease cur-
able only by systemic treatment. A
remedy that cures catarrh must aim
directly at the depressed nerve cen-
